Earlier this month, their company's website provided a press release with their list of “Most Loved Vehicles” for each segment, or type, of vehicle. The 2014 RAM 2500 was the answer for the heavy duty pickup segment and it's no surprise. For buyers that haul and tow heavy loads frequently, the RAM 2500 hits the nail on the head. The tow ratings get close to 18,000 pounds with a fifth wheel connection - it can handle almost any towing needs. To fit the needs of various customers, it comes in several models including the Tradesman, the SLT, the Laramie, and the Laramie Longhorn. They offer features ranging from the standard manual door locks and cruise control to the more advanced options of park assist and a remote starter. There are also option packages including the Big Horn Package, the Power Wagon option, and the Outdoorsman model for even more choices to fit the lifestyles and needs of buyers.


This is only scratching the surface as far as options go, customers can choose from three different engine models. The standard is the 5.7 liter V8 but buyers can choose the 6.4 liter V8 or the Cummins Turbo Diesel - a 6.7 liter six cylinder engine for extra towing power. There is an automatic as well as a manual transmission option while many other heavy duty work trucks only offer automatics. Beyond that, it is offered in three cab styles. There is the regular two-door style, the four-door Crew Cab, and the four-door Mega Cab. The Crew Cab comes with a long or a short cargo bed and the Mega Cab has a short bed with a much larger cab. The regular cabs come with a long bed.


As for safety, the RAM 2500 offers a rear view camera on all models (either as an option or a standard). It also has anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system and both front seat and side curtain airbags. All models except for the Tradesman offer power-adjustable pedals as well.


Whether it is the cab, engine, extra additions, or automatic versus manual transmission, a buyer has the ability to make their model the one they want and need. The RAM 2500 also has an updated coil-spring rear suspension to make the ride smoother and more comfortable than that of previous models.
