Sadly, the Christian life, as seen at church, is not the Christian life that many professing believers live on a daily basis.

When with believers, the average Christian has it all together. He shows a passion and a desire for relationship with God and other people, an amazing insight into what it means to know God and His word.

Outside of church, it is a completely different story. Lying and cheating are commonplace. Greed and infidelity are in style. It is however fascinating that they lying; cheating Christian puts forth a great effort to cover this part of his life. He makes sure that those in his church community don't see this part of his life.

Many Christians are able to live two faced lives because of their ability to deceive.

Notorious serial killers were not captured for decades because they were able to deceive. Even the spouses of such killers were unable to see the monster lurking under the surface as they prowled at night killing woman after woman.

They were living a life of fantasy and one of reality at the same time being able to deceive everyone in their life that they ...
... were good people.

Another factor of two faced living has to do with the evil human heart. Sinful actions of the heart, even if not yet committed, are condemned by God.

Jesus captured this idea in the Sermon on the Mount. He said,

You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder,' . . . But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment (Matt. 5:21-22).

In other words, I can boast about not killing but if I get angry with my brother I am a two face, guilty of a similar attitude as that of a killer.

Anger paralyzes us, as it seems to overpower us to do the regrettable. We snap at our spouse or children without realizing that they are being caused pain. Afterwards we are stuck trying to fix a difficult situation.

We must come to the understanding that the things played out in our heart and our mind, are the same as the actions themselves, in the sight of God.

My inclination toward murder on the inside makes me an automatic two faced Christian even though on the outside I seem like a nice lad.
