Lepakshi prints are very popular and unique. They adapt to the changing eras and times and till date they maintain enriching and endearing freshness.

Lepakshi prints are purely handmade prints. The fabrics, motifs and designs everything are handiworks of artisan. Now days, they became best outfits that have occupied their place in every woman’s wardrobe.

Lepakshi Prints have their origin in Lepakshi, Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh is a treasure-trove of its arts and crafts. It is well-famed of its traditional handmade works.

The designing process of Lepakshi Prints requires dedication and patience. The artisan meticulously executes this, with the passion towards work.

The artisan uses block printing because the process can create such sensational prints. Block printing is really a painstaking process that has survived from ancient ...
... times to the present, because of its output quality.

Block prints use wooden blocks for the printing process. It is a handy work; artisan uses his hand to print the design on the fabric. The fabrics such as Pure Cotton, Pure Silk, Chiffon etc are different fabric prints of Lepakshi.

Block printing majorly involves in 5 steps and 3 main tools such as wooden blocks, fabrics and dyes.

In Handmade printing, the artisan first sketches the design on fabric for printing. He draws the design little bit bigger than he required; then cuts that design and glues it on to the wooden block. It is called as a stamp. He prints or presses stamp on to the original fabric. In this time, he carefully releases it without moving the stamp side to side at all.

It takes several minutes to dry fully. Finally, artisan paints the design with desired colours. The main colours used in Block printing are Red, blue, Yellow and Saffron. The motifs like flowers, birds, animals, trees, fruits and humans postures etc are designed by the artisans.

In Machine made printing there are different techniques such as direct block printing, resist printing and discharge printing. Mainly printing involves in three steps. The printer first dyes the fabric and removes chemical portions of the fabric. The dye reapplied again to create block print design. Here, the printing is done from left to right.

Different tribal prints are designed by the designers especially for weddings, festivals and grand occasions. Lepakshi saris with different motifs and borders are both casual and party wears. Lepakshi sarees with tribal elegant pallus are best suitable for night parties and dinners.

We must take hat off our artisans for their love and passion towards enchanting and prestigious designs of Lepakshi prints.
