Keep Yourself Motivated To Exercise
A lot of people find it hard to sustain their motivation and enthusiasm to keep exercising regularly, let alone start their exercise routine itself. If you are like this, you are not alone – there's certainly many people out there who have a hard time keeping their fitness motivation high. While the following are no surefire way to ease your boredom and get out of that lazy workout haze, these tips can surely help you keep yourself motivated to exercise on a regular basis. Read on to find out:
Remember when, remember why.
Remember that time when you finally decided to start on your exercise plan because of how tired you are with how you currently look – sagging muscles (or fat), and all that? Well, if you are losing hope today, this is the perfect time to remember that turning moment in your life. Remember the goals you've initially set for yourself and try to keep going, considering the goals you've long wanted to achieve for yourself.
Make it a habit.
Remember: working out should not be a one-time thing. A lot of people start on their fitness plan because of the goals they've set for yourself. ...
... However, one reason that makes this not too effective is because we limit ourselves to the duration of our plan, meaning we only stick to exercising until we reach our goals. Exercising should be part of our daily habit and lifestyle, so make sure you aim to exercise on a regular basis, not just because you have several goals you want to achieve, but also because this is part of your healthy lifestyle.
Have fun.
If you keep doing the same routines every day, or if you stick to non-stimulating workouts, chances are you're most likely lose interest sooner rather than later. Constantly challenge yourself to keep the motivation high and avoid hitting an exercise plateau. You can have fun while intensifying the challenge by tweaking your workouts, introducing new workout variety, trying new exercises, or by simply doing physical activities that you love.
Reward yourself.
We learned from our psychology classes that reward system helps in effective positive reinforcement, particularly to alter someone's behavior. Aside from enjoying what you do, it's also essential to reward yourself from time to time for a job well-done. This means that even though you are trying to lose weight or shed that excess fat, you don’t always have to deprive yourself in eating all your favorite foods. It's okay to have a cheat day in a month – say, this is the day when you don’t have to worry about exercising or watching the food you eat. The important thing is that you can bounce back to your healthy routine after your cheat day: way to keep your motivation high without depriving yourself with all your favorite activities and food.
Start small and be realistic.
We all have our own fitness goals. To achieve these, it's important to keep your motivation and commitment throughout your fitness journey. Apart from this, though, it's also necessary to be realistic with your goals. A lot of people simply back out halfway through their fitness program because of lack of successful results. Why? One common reason is the unrealistic goals they've set for themselves. Trying to lose 20 kilograms a month can be a big/unrealistic goal for some and unhealthy, too. Try to keep your goals SMART -- Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound. Also start small – you can always amp up your routines over time once your body gets used to your previous exercise plan.
Consider taking supplements.
Last but not the least, know more details about workout supplementation. Products like creatine and protein powders are highly recommended to improve stamina and endurance for many athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Be sure to ask professional medical advice and do a research yourself so you can learn more about the benefits or possible side effects of supplements that you're interested to take.
