Being in the industry of making movies has taught a lot of people the importance of adding a dash of complications in their otherwise normal skills. This is because of the extreme commercialisation of movies.
Today, even if you have a home video that is remotely interesting, people find ways of over popularising it and making money out of it. This is why more and more people are entering this industry. It is fun with a lot of money all packed up in a neat little parcel.
The darker side
The problem with making films is that it isn’t as easy as it appears to be. Things get slightly complicated when you actually get down to making things on your own. What we see in the television or read in a book is mere theory. People talk about holding on to a camera and getting unimaginable quality from it. It is a hoax. Trust me. You need more than just a camera for that ideal video which can be called successful.
And what is that?
There are many types of equipment that surround the actual camera. You can’t really choose between them and decide to use one and not the other. If you are in for good film making, ...
... you must actually have everything whether it is a Mat Box or even a tripod.
Of course these are the most basic equipments which most people have. You can buy a matte box at any popular photography equipment shop however; remember to check specifications on the internet before the big purchase.
Apart from the mat box or the tripod, make sure that you have invested in a couple of good quality lenses which give you different perspectives as and when needed. 2 should be enough for close by and distant shots, however, don’t spend on a macro lens. Just remove your lens from the camera and hold it right in front of it. Of course you wouldn’t get that kind of a focus on it but the results are pretty stunning.
Good equipment is everything, is it?
Not really. Of course, good equipment is half the battle won, but you cannot go to war on the big screen with a couple of matte boxes and a decent lens. For a good action time, you must have a keen eye as well. You have to grow a third eye that can see everything.
See, you might be too occupied with your subject and therefore will probably concentrate only on the subject of your video. However, to a person who hasn’t seen or does not know what the video is about, he will look closely at just about everything in that shoot.
So, borrow your friend’s eyes and have them take a fresh look at the video so that they can scan the frame in a way that you probably can’t, giving them the ability to spot the faults. Also, make sure that you don’t ignore suggestions and handle criticism well before you actually broadcast your video.
Being able to look at things at the right time will give you the opportunity to make it better and well in time thereby increasing your video’s commercial viability. On the whole don’t focus on the subject alone. Make sure that you treat your video as a whole and not a single event. Once you do that, you just can’t fail!
