In 1985 a New York chiropractor named Donald Epstein began creating a gentle form of wellness, chiropractic care that he called Network Spinal Analysis (NSA), also referred to as Network Care. Donald Epstein has been researching, refining and teaching Network Care internationally since its inception. His organization is known as Wise World Seminars and is located in Longmont, CO.

As he was observing the healing processes of thousands of people, and due to his capacity to track patterns and observe energetic phenomena in people, Epstein found that his client's nervous systems were sharing energy via entrainment. Simply put, his patients were exchanging the positive benefits of the work he was doing simply through the resonance of their overlapping energetic fields. Epstein later went on to refer to these fields as "energetic Intelligences" (Epstein, Senzon and Lemberger) since the fields appeared to contain Intelligent information. Due to these findings, Epstein began doing entrainment sessions with several individuals lying on tables next to each other. This configuration appeared to generate a powerful entrainment ...
... field. This field seemed to have the effect of increasing the overall impact of the entrainment session for those who were being worked on.

It became apparent to Epstein that he could make a significant, positive social impact by working with many people using this approach. Subsequently he began having weekend-long seminars, referred to as Transformational Gates, where two hundred to four hundred people would come together so that they could receive several Network entrainments and spend some time in the resulting, heart-generated, group entrainment field. Up to now these Transformational Gates have served somewhere around thirty thousand individuals over the course of the 156 seminars that have been held in the U.S. and Europe. Because of the need for natural, heart-centered solutions on our planet, more and more individuals are getting in care. There are probably another thirty thousand people who receive this care in numerous places in the world (Lemberger), and that number continues to increase.

Network Care continues to expand in popularity as it gets to be more and more apparent that it works and that it is reproducible. This by itself verifies the technique. Having said that, a research and education institute in California, the Institute of HeartMath (IHM), has produced scientific support over the course of their studies that corroborates Epstein's energetic observations. First, using sensitive magnetometers, the IHM has been able to measure an electromagnetic field that envelopes the heart and extends from the body (McCraty, Atkinson and Tomasino). Furthermore, the key findings of one IHM experiment demonstrate that, the heart signature of a person can be detected in the nervous system of another person when people are touching one another or even if they are merely in close proximity (McCraty, Atkinson and Tomasino). In other words the heart of one individual can communicate directly by way of resonance with the nervous system of someone else. The IHM's research showed that this effect was most apparent when individuals were in physical contact with each other, similiar to what occurs between a practitioner of a healing modality and the person who is receiving care. The effect was also present when people were close by each other, as is the situation when individuals are positioned on tables next to each other, as an example. These results have led the IHM to conclude, as Epstein has observed, that information exists in the fields that surround the body and that this information can be exchanged from one person to another (McCraty, Atkinson and Tomasino). Lastly, scientific investigations carried out by the IHM suggest that a field is generated when two or more people are resonating together in a similar fashion. One study demonstrated that the heart-entrained state can be communicated between people when they are in a group (McCraty, Atkinson and Tomasino). These scientific studies carried out by the IHM are some of the first scientific studies that have been able to demonstrate the way in which certain healing modalities, like Network Care, work.
