Hearing of all the snowfall we ventured into two hill stations of Himachal Pradesh; Shimla and Manali hoping that at least at one of the places we would also get to see snowfall and enjoy the snow-capped white pristine mountain. So first we headed to Shimla.

The earlier summer capital of the East India Company, the British in India, and now the current capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla is gifted with all the natural rewards that one can truly imagine. It has got magnificent views, surrounded by green hills with snow-capped peaks when it snows. Else also though we didn’t get to see snow but felt truly blessed to be there. The amazing cool hills accompanied with the structures built during the British Raj fashion an atmosphere which is very unlike from other hill stations.

Shimla retains its colonial heritage, with grand old buildings though there has been massive expansion and development in terms of new architecture coming up, but the old beautiful architectures of buildings like the Vice regal Lodge, charming iron lamp posts and Anglo-Saxon names really five a different aesthetic beauty to the town. The walks ...
... on the Mall road that are
packed with shops and eateries, some which are age old and are synonymous with the town and others that have recently come up are the centre of attraction of the town. It’s wonderful to walk and almost trek since the mall road terrain is slightly up and down, eating cones of ice cream make it truly enjoyable. Then there is the Scandal Point connected with the previous Maharaja of Patiala's adventures presents a sight of secluded snow clad peaks.

After enjoying the beauty that Shimla offered us we headed to Manali hoping to fins snowfall. Manali is about 5 hours’ drive from Shimla at approximately 275 kms.

Just 40 kms away from Kullu moving towards the north, Manali is located close to the end of the valley on the National Highway leading to Leh. The scenery here is leaves you awestruck. Now here we got lucky and saw snowfall and beautiful snow-capped peaks. The town is divided by the rushing waters of the Beas River with its unblemished clear water meandering through the town. When you cross the river you get to see beautiful landscaped gardens with deodar and pine trees, tiny fields and fruit orchards. They are perfect to enjoy a nice walk or picnic. It’s idyllic and you truly feel connected to nature, sitting enjoying a picnic on the lush green landscapes with the beautiful sound of the gushing waters of River Beas. It is an exceptional location for a holiday, a favourite town for trekkers who climb the hills of Lahaul, Spiti, Bara Bhangal (Kangra), and Zanskar ranges. There are many adventure sports that one can undertake in close distance to the town at Solang valley like paragliding and white water rafting on River Beas which offers grade 4 and 5 rapids. So from temples to relics, to striking quaint sight-seeing spots and adventure activities, Manali is a well admired hill station for all seasons and for all travellers. And if you get lucky, there is snow fall too else you can go up to Rohtang Pass where you’re sure shot to find snow and you can ski there.
