The Different Uses Of Wine
While a lot of people buy wine all the time, it's rarely opened unless it satisfies one of two situations. The first is that there's a special event and uncorking a bottle of wine is for celebratory purposes. The second is that the wine-buyer simply wants to drink wine. Either way, wine is consumed through drinking.
There are actually a lot of uses for wine. The only reason why it is mainly used for consumption more than anything else is because it is expensive. However, wine can be a home remedy of sorts, just in case you need one particular substance and there's nothing to be found but wine. Here are a few things that wine can be used for besides quenching your thirst.
Vinegar
Wine can be a substitute for vinegar. Note that wine as a vinegar substitute shouldn't be confused with wine vinegar, which is a product that makes use of red or white wine. As is, however, wine can be used as vinegar, especially bottles that have been opened for a few days. Remember that while wine turns into vinegar eventually, it is better to use good wine for your vinegar; as bad wine often makes for bad vinegar as well.
Cleaning
...
... While wine may not be as good as real vinegar, it does share a few properties with the latter. As you may already know, vinegar is not just used in the kitchen. It can be a used as a cleaning agent. Not only does wine serve this purpose beautifully, it contains alcohol, which makes it a good disinfectant. If you find yourself lacking in stain and grease removal agents, wine can be a good substitute. The only drawback with wine is its acidity, so try not to abuse what's left of the $20 bottle.
Toppings
White wine can be used as invisible toppings. For instance, if you're having some garden salad, you can use wine as the dressing. You can also pour a few drops of wine on pre-cooked fried dish. You can even create ice cubes out of wine to give an original drink a little flavour. Wine can even be turned into marmalade if you know how to make one. Just put pectin and fruit with wine and you can have a classy breakfast every morning.
Cooking
Finally, in the pursuit of healthy living, a lot of people are looking for alternatives to cooking in grease. There's using butter instead of cooking oil, for instance. There's using soda for added tanginess. Wine, in particular is not just a mainstay at the dinner table. It's also no stranger to the kitchen. Wine is often used as a sauce or a marinade. For the latter, it doesn't just add flavour to the meat. It also actually helps eliminate various compounds that cause cancer. So not only can you have a good-tasting meal, there are additional health benefits to using wine, too.
If you're creative enough, there are a lot of things you can do with wine. If you find yourself unable to finish a bottle before it goes bad, try experimenting things with wine. You may just surprise yourself. While any wine will do, dry white wine makes the best component in cooking, as you may find at this post.
