Australia is the sixth biggest country in the world according to land area, occupying about 3,000 square miles of land. It is a country known to prosper due to its stable and yet culturally diverse society. It boasts of a strong economy supported by a highly competent workforce. This achievement is rooted in having a world-class education system available to its population of about 23 million people (based on 2013 census).

Included in these world-class and world-recognized educational institutions are the nine (9) dental schools across the country that consistently produce knowledgeable and skilled oral health practitioners. The increasing number of the Australian population only signifies the need for also increasing the number of dental practitioners in the health workforce. By doing so, it is better assured that good oral health among the population may be maintained. For this reason alone, it can be argued that dental education in Australia is still one of the most viable courses to take.

A study in November 2012 by Insight Economics© on the projected number of persons in the Australian ...
... dental workforce until the year 2020 showed that there is an expected balloon of oral health care workers. It is to note that this study mainly considered the number of expected dental practitioners that will graduate from Australian universities and those trained abroad but will seek to join the country’s oral health care workforce. The study however does not claim that despite the expected balloon in number of dental practitioners, that persons should avoid this profession. In fact, it mentions that this study was focused on the projected supply without considering the possible demand. Therefore, expansion of the dental workforce should also be looked at from the perspective that it is only keeping up with the demands of a budding oral health-conscious population. Taking this in regard, it is practical for persons to choose a Dental Education in Australia and enter a profession that is keeping up with the growing society.

One should recognize that the method to enter the oral health care workforce is not limited to finishing a full-course university education in a dental school and getting a license as a dental professional. Aside from studying and training to be a professional dentist, other possible careers related to oral health care include dental hygienist, dental assistant, dental technician, and dental therapist. Some of these jobs may be learned through online education courses. The variety of options in becoming part of the dental workforce is appealing because a person has a choice as to what career he or she feels most comfortable or interested in pursuing. Not everyone is inclined to be a full-fledged dental professional for different reasons, such as the time required for study and the inherent competencies a person has. The assortment of job opportunities possible through a course of dental education in Australia makes it an appealing route for persons interested in being a health worker.

There are many careers one can choose from and being a dental practitioner may very well be considered as a viable option. There are many qualified learning institutions that offer good dental education in Australia, which constantly produce capable dental practitioners. The growing public will need a supporting health workforce, and the number of persons entering the dental profession could attest that the public sees the importance of having oral health care providers as part of this workforce.
