There was I, at the age of 34, having experienced scarcely a day's unwellness in my life, when I suddenly had deep painful sensations in my neck and lower back area. Merely a glitch, thought I, acquire some heat treatment ointment and that will get rid of it. Wrong! Thus I go and pay a rare visit to my doctor and he says I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. As he did not seem too concerned about it I did not think much of it, but it turned out to represent a life changing diagnosis.

Ankylosing Spondylitis, for those which do not know is one of the many strains of arthritis and can strike both males and women. I did not take it too seriously as I was still quite able to go about my day-by-day business and I linked arthritis with being disabled and suffering deformed hands etc. It reveals how clueless I was at that time in regards to rheumatic or arthritic ailments.

And so my Dr. prescribes some tablets, which in all honesty were not much use and I return to same physician and he prescribes some different pills, once again not much use. This carries on for a few years, some pills being stronger than others, ...
... but none of them truly getting rid off the pain. Then, after enduring various degrees of pain for approximately 15 years I at last obtained something which is a stronger painkiller for my ailment than any drug.

Enter the Tens Machine.

These simple machines come in assorted models, but they all operate by giving out slight electrical pulses of variable strength through pads put on the body which subdue the pain sensation signaling being sent out to the brain. These electric pulses also step-up the output of the body's innate painkillers named endorphins.

The tens machine model I own was fairly inexpensive to buy, and is cheap to run. The chief cost, being the replacement of the pads as they only have a finite life. Alright, indeed it's not a remedy, but if it disguises the pain sensation and aids me catch some Z's at night, I'm happy. These simple machines, apparently, may supply respite for all sorts of muscular and joint pain. I cannot guarantee that it will work for your particular ailment, but it is unquestionably worth a shot. I wish I had come across Tens Machines years ago.
