Why Use Pe Practice Exams?
Engineering students are starting to study for the PE exam and you know you need to practice a ton of problems. What practice exams should you get to test your knowledge? How should you even study? Do you take the practice exams as actual timed exams or just work them as homework problems? What is the most effective way to study and what exams are the most effective at testing you? What is good for the depth and what is good for the breadth sections?
These are probably some of the questions going through your head as you start studying and wanting to purchase practice exams to test yourself and prepare. This can be a daunting task but I want to share my thoughts in order to help.
Students often need additional study or support in at least one area that will be covered by the test. This may be an area that the student is not especially skilled or interested in. It may just be an area that the student wants more support.
Other students want to do as much as possible to feel competent about taking the test or passing it. For many students, this can be a stressful time and getting additional information and ...
... training can help reduce those feelings.
Build a Solid Test-Day Resource Library
An online course allows students to study, take sample tests, review information and get answers from instructors at any time, not just when a regular school is open. This can allow students to study at regular times or to work whenever it is most convenient. Students may also want to look for a course that specifically mentions tutoring if needed. Depending on which PE Exam you are taking, it would be well worth your time to spend time reading through and becoming very familiar with the code – or codes – that are primary to your industry.
Know the Format & Plan Your Time
Most of the PE Exams are 80 multiple choice questions taken over an 8 hour period – 40 questions in the 4-hour morning session and 40 questions in the 4-hour afternoon session. 480 minutes to read the questions, understand what’s being asked, find the applicable resource from your test-day resource library, work the problem, and mark the answer on the test page.
Whether you have 12 months, 12 weeks, or 12 days – hopefully not 12 days – you can plan your time wisely to maximize the benefits of your study effort. Most likely, you have a job, maybe a family, other commitments, and probably some interests that take time. Sit down with the test outline for your particular PE Exam – found at www.ncees.org – and plan out how to cover all the material you need to review in the amount of time available.
Resources
If you are looking for depth exams then I would recommend starting with Lindeburg’s practice exam and then purchasing the standard exams from the NCEES organization. I will make a post about the most helpful depth exams that have been found so you can stay in tune for that. There are other resources of note, like Six-Minute Solutions, etc. that are of note and they can be found here under the resources tab of www. Civilengineeringacademy.com these are harder questions, but they will help with some of the breadth and a lot of the depth portions of the PE exam.
I cannot end without telling you about the practice exam that Civil Engineering Academy has here on the site, “The Ultimate Civil PE Practice Exam”. This test covers the breadth portion of the exam as well, with realistic questions similar to the actual NCEES exam. And as an added bonus you will get 10 additional theory questions for purchasing it (limited time)! The more practice you get the more confident you will be as passing the exam so get as many problems as you can under your belt!
