The Placidity Of Swayambhunath

I looked out of the window and I saw dense rain clouds in the moonlight. It was the month of July, season of rain in South-Asian region. The clouds were flashing with lightning and I heard an announcement.
“Ladies and gentlemen, because of the bad weather conditions, emergency landing is required. Please fasten your seat-belts and put the tray table in their upright position. Thank you.”
I was watching outside the window. The plane was gently leaning on the right side and heading towards the storm. From some distance plane started to descend and landed on some airport.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Kathmandu International Airport. The local time is 4:40 AM and temperature is 50 degree Fahrenheit. Because of the bad weather condition our flight will lay low for 48 hours. Please enjoy your stay at Kathmandu.”
While loosening my seat-belt I looked at my friend Lopez and said “Now what?” He answered simply “We will enjoy our stay as she said.”
After one hectic business meeting in Singapore we were in need of some refreshment. As soon as we got out of the airport, we took a taxi ...
... and started to find a bar to have a few drinks. The taxi driver dropped us at a bar in downtown Kathmandu. The bar was closed. We decided to sit there until someone opens the bar.
Then came the owner and he opened up his bar. We rushed in and claimed the seats. We had a few drinks but somehow the drinks were not able to refresh us. We got out of the bar and started walking with no destination in mind.
Lopez asked me curiously “Isn’t the Buddhism major religion in Nepal?”
I answered “Yes, it is. Why?”
Lopez said instantly “There has to be a Stupa around here.”
I asked “Why are you so much excited about Stupa?”
Lopez asked a counter question “Do you wish to have most powerful spiritual and peaceful experience?”
I answered “Yeah, why?”
Lopez said “you can get one with a Stupa. Let’s find a guide.”
I answered “Sure! Let’s go.”
We were searching for some travel agencies on the streets, who can provide us a good guide. We were passing through the, so-called, Samakhusi area and we saw a board on a nearby building. We rushed to the building and visited the office of that travel agency.
The staff of the agency was really attentive. The executive of the agency gave us information on every Stupa situated in Nepal and he strongly recommended us visiting Swayambhunath Stupa. We did not buy any Holiday Tours in Nepal through that agency; however, he provided us with a guide at a reasonable price. The guide took us to the Swaymbhunath Stupa, situated in the heart of the city.
As I was going up the stairs, the golden spire of the Stupa was revealing itself to me. As soon as I reached the top, two eyes drawn on that golden spire started gazing into my soul and that muted noise of the city for some time. The cloudy atmosphere was highlighting the Stupa among the city buildings. There was just me and the Stupa. That was the one true peaceful experience I had.
We did not spend much time as we got a call from our flight attendant, stating that weather condition is now moderate and the flight will take off after one hour. We paid the guide, took a taxi and went to the airport. We were so quiet and calm till we reached our destination.
That year, we took a vacation just to visit Nepal. We bought a package of holiday tours in Nepal from that travel agency. That year we visited many places of Buddhist pilgrimage. We hiked and trekked as well.
