Whether we like it or not, some people have the tendency to judge us because of the way we look. There are those who start forming opinions in their head on the character of a person based only on the clothes they wear. This is why there are those who spend time, energy, and money just to make sure they wear outfits that will make them look good, especially those whose jobs require them to be dressed to the nines.

At job interviews, hiring personnel’s decisions can also be partly swayed by what an interviewee wears. So, if you’re going to a physical face-to-face job interview (since there are also job interviews that are done now online), you need to know what to wear to make a good first impression. Believe it or not, an over-the-top or outlandish outfit has cost job seekers the job they were applying for, even though they are qualified for the position.

Here are ways on how to get it right in terms of dressing for a job interview:

Look professional – If there’s one very important tip in terms of dressing for success, this has got to be it. Applicants who don’t take their ...
... style seriously can also not be taken seriously by those who conduct the interview. Looking professional means wearing a solid color, conservative suit. You want to make a good first impression? You have to look like you’re already part of the company you’re applying for right at this step of your application process.

Limit your jewelry – This tip is for women who can’t seem to part from their precious adornments every time they step out of their house. You can certainly still wear jewelry, but make sure you keep it to a minimum. Contrary to what many might think, wearing too much jewelry doesn’t take your professional dressing a notch higher; it actually can make you look like you pay attention to unnecessary things. Additionally, don’t wear big items like dangling earrings. They tend to become a distraction.

Mind the hair, too – No matter how professional your outfit looks, it won’t matter much if you have untidy hair or you wear it like you’re attending a party and not a job interview. One of the goals for your hair is to make sure your face is nicely framed. This brightens up your look. A simple ponytail is actually already a safe, clean, and efficient style. There’s no need to do something elaborate.

Minimize the makeup – Many experts recommend that only one part of the face should be highlighted when doing makeup. For example, if you’re wearing mascara with the intent of highlighting your eyes, take it easy on your lips and cheeks. You want to do the same thing with your nails. Attending a job interview is not a time for showcasing nail art, so just have a coat of clear polish to be safe. (And don’t spray on too much cologne or perfume, to the point of smelling offensive. This can turn off interviewers, especially those with hypersensitivity to certain scents.)

Finally, have a confident outlook and give it your best. Remember that even if some think that the clothes make the man, it’s still how you answer the interview questions that will truly matter. (You can get the latest trends in fashion online. Simply check this out.)
