Bridgeport Dental Implants Advice Column, Part 2
Welcome to the second installment of this four-part column on dental implants and the sophisticated All-on-4 protocol for fixed oral rehabilitation. In Part 1, we spoke to a Bridgeport dental implants surgeon who explained what these teeth replacement devices are essentially like artificial tooth roots used to support a new ceramic tooth (crown) or prosthetic set of teeth (bridge). We left off with a brief account of the All-on-4 protocol and how it is able to provide most patients with new, non-removable teeth in as little as a single day.
We will now dive straight back in to this line of enquiry considering this procedure’s potential to change the lives of many New York, New Jersey and Connecticut residents who have lost most or all of their natural teeth.
In our previous article, you mentioned that the All-on-4 dental implant protocol is almost always able to give patients new teeth in just one day. This sounds like an incredible feat of modern technology
“Oh yes it absolutely is. The All-on-4 represents the culmination of many years of research, clinical trials and hard work by European implantologist ...
... Dr. Paulo Malo and his team,” says the Bridgeport dental implants surgeon. “This technique essentially revolutionized the field of fixed oral rehabilitation, making possible what was previously considered completely impossible.”
Can you give us an idea of how dentists in New Jersey used dental implants to treat patients before this protocol was introduced?
“Sure... if you had been diagnosed with a “terminal” dentition as a result of gum disease and required a brand new set of teeth, you’d probably be looking at needing six, eight or even 10 dental implants to give you a new upper or lower arch of teeth. Placing this many implants would typically require multiple surgeries over many months. So, right there you are looking at an incredible amount of money and a journey that could take up to a year and a half to complete.”
“To make matters worse, if you’ve been living without teeth for several years, or with dentures, in order to have even 6 or 8 implants placed, you would likely require bone grafting surgery to replace the jawbone volume that you’ve lost to atrophy. And this would have to be done before you even came in for your first dental implant procedure. All-in-all, older dental implant techniques were prohibitively expensive for most and would take a long time before patients could eat, speak and smile again with confidence.”
And does the All-on-4 avoid all of these problems?
“The All-on-4 enables dentists to provide New Jersey residents, along with many from Connecticut and New York, with new teeth using only four dental implants. Through the strategic treatment planning behind this procedure, it’s been shown that enough support can be provided for a fixed prosthetic dental bridge using far fewer implants, which means two things... (1) We can give patients a new set of teeth in just one surgery and (2) we can typically avoid bone grafting, even if patients have lost a fair amount of bone volume in the jaw. This eliminates tens of thousands of dollars off the cost of getting new, fixed teeth and several months of painful recovery.”
