A CTM stands for community trade mark which is valid in the entire European Union, and is registered with OHIM as per the provisions of the CTM Regulations. It is not possible to restrict the geographic scope of protection of trademarks and designs to specific Member States of the EU. A CTM provides an exclusive right to its owner to use the trade mark and to avoid third parties from using it, without permission, an identical or a similar looking mark for same or similar looking goods and/or services as those protected with CTM.

This also allows for International registrations governed by the Madrid Protocol to designate the Community Trademark Office, instead of the individual member states of the European Union. Further, it is possible for a Community Trademark to form the basis to acquire an International registration under the Madrid Protocol.

Domain Registrations: EURid is the European Registry of Internet Domain Names, which manages the .eu top-level Internet domain under contract to the European Commission. EURid came into existence under the Belgian law as a private, not-for-profit organization on 8 April 2003. EURid operates and manages the registry under the terms set by EU regulations. In the year 1999 the European Council initiated discussions on a single top-level domain for Europe. After many years of deliberating over the issue, the European Commission appointed EURid as the operator of the .eu registry in May 2003. The .eu domain was then added to the root zone of the Internet Domain Name System in March 2005. The main office of EURid is situated just outside the city of Brussels, Belgium. Regional offices are present in Stockholm, Sweden; Pisa, Italy; and Prague, the Czech Republic.
