How Do Your Peers Review You? It Usually Starts With Body Language And Wardrobe
Whether you’re on a date, job interview or milling around the general public, it’s always good to look your best because you just never quite know when a good opportunity (be it business or personal) might reveal itself; and, when it does, you want to look your best. When you look good, you feel good, right? And when you feel good, you do good things.
Have you ever wondered how your peers review you? Granted, this is a play on words from the phrase “peer review” but I actually mean it quite seriously. What I am referring to is: How good is the quality of the immediate (first) impression you make on others? Perhaps, the best way to answer this question is by having knowledge about what others notice first about you.
More often than not, when you’re being peer reviewed, it is the quality of your body language that people notice first. To assess your body language, consider the following:
Is Your Spine Always in Proper Alignment (Good Posture)?
Good posture (body alinement is a fast indicator of overall health & virility. If you doubt the power of perfect posture ...
... just ask yourself one question: Would Superman be Super if he had a slouching posture – compared to the great posture he shows while prominently displaying the ‘S” on his chest. Good posture is also the very best way to prevent most types of chronic back pain – by the way.
Are Your Clothes Free of Wrinkles and Stains?
Often times it’s not what you’re wearing that matters most but how well it’s kept. For example, sporting a plain white t-shirt at the grocery store isn’t going to win fashion week but is not necessarily objectionable in the eye of an onlooker (peer reviewer). However, a wrinkled white T-shirt with food stains is definitely frowned upon and makes you look bad.
Is Your Body in Good Shape?
Not only is body alignment (good posture) important while a peer reviews you but the shape of your body is critical as well. Let me put it another way, you could be wearing a $3000 freshly pressed suit and have the world’s most perfect posture BUT if you are morbidly obese at the same time, it will cancel out the other good things you’re doing. In order for your body to get a good peer review you don’t have to look like Adonis. But an average shaped body, wearing a nice outfit, with perfect posture is all anyone can really ask and will always score you serious points.
I hope you’ve taken my above considerations to heart before the next time you walk out that front door as you never quite know when the next business opportunity might strike. These tips also apply to your Facebook profile picture as well. Thanks for listening!
