Digital Review: Age Of Darkness #1 From Titanium Comics
Titanium Comics has released their first comic book and I am bringing you a full review. Many thanks to Robert Turnbow and the folks at Titanium for giving me this opportunity. Age of Darkness #1 was released last week in digital format on their Facebook store and can still be purchased along with posters and other items.
From writers Joanna Estep and Don McLiam, Age of Darkness is a story of a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world where everything dead doesn’t stay that way. I love the fact that it is not just people zombies. There is nothing cooler than the thought of seeing gorilla zombies escaped from the zoo or maybe emaciated wolf zombies roaming the night or a zombie deer with a huge antler rack munching on flesh.
The story begins with a group of folks that look outfitted for war traveling in a military truck complete with radio and sleeping quarters. The montage on the following page explains, in pictures, that the group met some other people and got a seed. The seed was given to them by members of the Brotherhood of Yggdrasil, the world tree, or something of that sort. At least a seed of hope ...
... for this gang of people. And one of their number has a wound and is not sure if it came from a knife or a bite…
The quest that the team is on unfolds as they travel to new coordinates given them through an encrypted radio signal. Tish and Choirboy stay in the truck to keep an eye out for trouble while Chavez, Baldwin, and a beefy black guy with a huge gun and no name other than Baby, so far, run through a military-like complex to find the next step in their survival. Of course, finding that the seed they worked so hard for was a fake and that what they thought was hope of survival was about to turn into another stage of a game, a test, a quest even makes their lives a lot more difficult.
Noises go off to attract the zombie monsters and the countdown to unlocking the doors and letting the team die begins. The battle is hard fought, as both Tish and Choirboy fight to get the truck started. I love the cutting back and forth and the vagueness of some of the zombies keeping the focus on the team of characters and not on that attacking mass of undead flesh. The layout of this book is really cool, with panels over panels, different shapes and sizes almost mirroring the chaos that the team experiences throughout this first installment of the story.
Overall, this is a great book, very fast moving and some great colors. I am very excited to see what the team does and how this story plays out. This is a solid first look at the talent and imagination coming out of Titanium Comics and I hope you will check them out.

Aaron has been reading comics since he was in 5th grade. He only had children so he could still buy comics and toys without looking like a nerd. Most of the things he buys are never touched by his kids. He has a vast collection of stuff that his wife constantly complains about.http://www.facebook.com/ti.comics.thearcane
