Economy expansions and contractions are a common happening in most of the major economies of the world. But it is the extent of contraction that is the most alarming. Most of the cases of recession and depression have emerged from such crisis and the current US recession is no exception. The entire crisis began from the collapse of the housing industry in 2007 which by contrast was the most booming industry in till the late 2005. The collapse of housing industry brought down the house-loan based banking sector as well.
Tracing down the collapse and seeing its effect can make us feel really scared. To understand the extent, we can see the cases in which people have lost billions in just over a year’s time without making any financial moves. The sales trend and the demand curve showed a downward trend in the early part of 2005 and late 2004. The peripheral costs were showing a constant increase and the net price of a house was going down. All these indicators were early signs of a severe contraction in the housing industry. Moreover the asset value of the current already made houses was starting to depreciate. ...
... The trend was observed in scattered places in the US and therefore was mistakenly understood as a seasonal trend. The situation got extremely tough in early 2006 where people started loosing lots of money in terms of their asset value. Banks started to loose their grip on the profits gained and sharp slump was seen in the load demands. All these factors added up and the whole housing industry was brought to the floor in the early 2007. This yielded huge losses in the Banking industry in which several of the entities collapsed financially resulting in a sharp increase in people loosing their jobs. A lucrative real estate economy ended in a nightmare all because of an economic contraction.
The effects of the collapse of the housing industry are still evident in the US economy. Strict fiscal and regulatory measures are required to avoid such loss in the future.
