There are many tours that one can take while visiting Gujrat and once such is the Dwarka Somnath Package. During this tour one truly enjoys the Ancient cave paintings to historic murals, natural and manmade caves. Art, history, music, culture, all within each other to form an incredible matrix that is the cultural enthusiasm of the people of the state.
You can start your Dwarka Somnath Package tour from Ahmedabad. The city of Dwarka is around 480 kms or an approximate run of 8 hours from Ahmedabad. The Dwarakadheesh temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is worshipped here by the name Dwarkadhish, or 'King of Dwarka'. It is believed to have been built after the historic Dwarka city, the Kingdom of Krishna which sunk into the ocean after the Mahabharata war. The foremost shrine of the 5-storied building, supported by 72 pillars, is identified as Jagat Mandir or Nija Mandir, and is believed to be 5,000 years old.
The present temple was built in 16th century while the original temple was assumed to have been built by grandson of Krishna, Vajranabha, over the hari-griha (Lord Krishna's residential ...
... place). The temple became part of the Char Dham pilgrimage which is considered sacred by all Hindus.
After visiting the Dwarkadheesh temple one can proceed to Nageshvara Jyotirlinga which approximately half hour away. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines mentioned in the Shiva Purana. Nageshvara is believed as the first Jyotirlinga on the earth. There are three major shrines in India which are believed as identical to this Jyotirlinga. Those are the Jageshwar temple near Almora in Uttarakhand state, the Nageshwara temple near Dwaraka in Gujarat state and the Nagnath temple in Aundha in Maharashtra state.
After residing the night in Dwarka one can head to Porbandar which is a run of 120 kms or approximately 2 and a half hours. Porbandar is situated on the western coast of Saurashtra, Gujarat, lays the harbour city of Porbandar, better known as the birth-place of Gandhi - The Father of The Nation. The major attraction for the most visitors to this city is the three story house where Gandhi was born in 1869. Sudama Temple- it is associated with a popular story of Krishna and his dear friend Sudama.
After that you can continue your drive to Somnath which is again 120 kms away from Porbandar and 2 and half hours run. You will reach by Somnath and can enjoy the evening prayers when the jyotirlinga is decorated the most. The prayers happen with lots of music and revelry. It is truly a mesmerising affair and one to be experienced for sure.
The temple has been constructed in the Chalukyan style with a shikhara nearly 50 m tall. The temple's striking architecture comprises of an impressive Nandi idol, intricate carvings, silver doors and the central shivalinga. In the vast courtyard stands the massive mandapa (hall), as well as the most important shrine, whose soothingly curved pyramidal forms tower over the whole complex.
Through a side door the sea is evident sparkling in the sunlight. Try slipping out to watch at the thunderous waves below, which although are not safe for swimming, still present an invigorating spectacle.
Staying the night in the town and then head back to either Rajkot or Ahmedabad and return with beautiful memories of the amazing architecture, the sacred moments in the temples, the rich culture of the state and the welcome of its large and warm hearted people.
