With regular repetition, the move that you master can become habit and can be used in particular strikes without you actually thinking of it.
One other aspect of Karate is what is called "kata" which is essentially executing a sequence of different moves in a combination of strikes, kicks and blocks. If you go to a Karate exhibition you will often see kata performed and these are all skills you will learn as you move on through the grading system. Sometime during your lesson you'll also have a chance for some fighting with others of a similar experience to you. You can practice with a real person the techniques you've learned up to that time. The sparring will often only involve light contact but you will gain valuable experience of distance and angles when trying different types of strikes.
As you get to the end of lesson, you will be winding down by doing a number of stretches. Make sure you spend some time to see how clubs are managed but in general many classes follow this routine.
