The biggest news in the electronic industry as of the moment is the appointment of Satya Nadella, an Indian, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft. This appointment may have been long overdue. Nadella has worked for the company for 22 years, and it is only now that he received the biggest reward of his life.

This rise of an individual who was once the head of the cloud computing department of Microsoft seemed to make the concept of cloud computing more interesting. What is it and how it started? These are questions that may be running through everybody’s mind.

Cloud computing was a concept born when the electronic industry had the need to use multiple computers which were located in a warehouse located in Silicon Valley. The operation that it offered was acceptable for some time, but the sheer number of computers proved to be difficult to deal with. It may have been the most convenient option when trying to reach out to various hardware and software but it was not able to address one important problem – portability.

The solution that the electronic industry was able to ...
... come up with is cloud computing.

The inspiration for cloud computing came from telecommunications. It was the perfect example of how to access information from a remote source. This system that telecommunication companies run was called virtual computing. It was renamed by the electronic industry when it first used it. This was also important because most of the hardware available in the market are starting to become thinner and smaller. That is why it has become very important to have a way to access all the data you need from a remote source.

Taking into consideration its development, it can be said that cloud computing has existed long before. In fact, you may already have been using it without knowing it. The system uses the internet as its remote source of information or the place where you will be able to store all the information that you may have in any of your devices.

There are also moments that unknowingly, people use cloud computing simply because the company where their devices are coming from – phone, laptop, and tablet – may have established their own online service for it. For example, Apple has iMac for Mac users. With its help, the user can store any file into the laptop and that same file can be accessed in either your tablet or your phone.

Another example is when you take a picture using your phone. Once you click save, that same photograph is immediately made available in your two other devices, making it convenient to upload anytime you want it to. The need for bulky and sometimes annoying wires is no more. Unfortunately, this is what Microsoft is aiming to do and that may be why they appointed someone from their cloud computing department to take over the Chief Executive Officer position to make sure that this became the priority.

Cloud computing might not be a hundred percent original idea, but it was the one that made everything else follow.
