Do You Really Need A Diploma To Make A Career In Event Management?
You don’t. You can simply complete your graduation (in any stream) and join a small or big event management company. There is an abundance of opportunities in this industry, and the doors are open for all. However, a diploma in event management or university recognised event management courses will enable you to understand and analyze event management, and develop the much-required managerial skills to excel in this field. A diploma holder is also likely to have a perfect mix of theoretical and practical grounding (which will give him/her a clear edge over others applying for the same job).
There was a time when there was very little scope for the youngsters who wanted to do something in this field. The sector was highly un-organized. Today, the scenario has completely changed. From birthday parties to wedding ceremonies and product launches to fashion shows, everyone is looking to stage the perfect event. This is where they feel the need of qualified event managers. As per an estimate, the industry would require more than 5,000 managers in the next 5 years.
The good thing is that there are hundreds of institutes ...
... around. The sad thing is that not all are competent enough to deliver high quality education and placing their students with companies. So, if you are feeling like you should join an event management institute to master the industry related subjects, try for a reputed institute. But, how would you know which institute is best for you? It’s simple, actually.
Go to their website – almost every institute now has a website of their own. Get onto their website, check whether its courses are recognised, how long it’s been around, and its corporate tie-ups.
Have a chat with its past students – this is perhaps the best way to find out how good an institute is. You don’t need hours for this. Just talk to a few of them for a minute or two, and you’ll be enlightened! Alternatively, you can take time out to talk to the students in the current batches. Their advice can also be of great help.
Apply common sense – Often, you just need to keep your eyes and ears open. If you have felt something fishy, it’s better to move to another institute.
A diploma in event management – you need it or you don’t need it
It’s okay to do without a diploma in event management. You will still make it to the industry. But, enrolling for a diploma course is a good idea if you want to enter the industry with relevant theoretical and practical knowledge, and want to outshine others who go for interviews with a plain degree.
You may like to consider a diploma in event management or other event management courses if you are serious about making a career in this industry, which is a product of the new-age careers, and seems to allure more and more youngsters.
