Everything a parent does is being watched and remembered by a children. Children like to imitate what others do, and since they are around parents so often, they become a lot like them. The hard part of parenting is knowing that children, emulate the bad things that parents do as often, or more often, than the good. Another thing you need to know is that child's brain is wired to do different things; some will be good with math and others better with English. If your kids are academically inclined, more than likely it is something that they were born with in regard to their interest level. Some kids will have a strong desire to do things outside of school, whereas others will thrive doing schoolwork. Once you understand a little bit more about your children and how their personalities are, you can be there to help them along the way. Having a goal of completing high school, hopefully with very high grades, should be a primary goal for your teenage kids. Of course it may be helpful to let your child know that independent tutoring or help is available, too.

Being consistent when raising children, with regards to the rules in the home, is something that the majority of parents understand, even though they may not do it. Almost always in a family with both parents, one is more lenient in the discipline than the other, so how do they come up with a consistent compromise. Parents definitely need to know how to agree, because the children will quickly learn which one will give in. When it comes to the regulations, and the discipline, the parents must be on the same page. If the rules were set where both parents agreed and the children knew what would happen if they disobeyed, there would be no reason to ever give-in.

What any parent should do is take part in their child's life as much as possible, understand what they are going through, and be there for them during the tough times. Using positive communication techniques, and remaining calm at all times, all situations should go very smoothly.
