Dell Inspiron has been a highly popular brand among contemporary laptops because of sturdy design and cutting edge performance. In today’s highly advanced age of ultrabooks and notebooks, the boot time is approximately standardized to 30 seconds or less, however, mainstream notebooks may take nearly a minute or so. You might have noticed that the laptop works well during its initial purchase but it starts lagging or delaying boot up after six months or more. Have you ever thought of the reason behind it?

Many users think that it’s the technology that has become outdated and is causing such issues to your Dell device. They can be right to a certain extent, but the major reason is the amount of awareness that you have about your product. In order to make your gadget accomplish most tasks very quickly, you need to keep all the software updated and maintain a good security shield around your device as well as network. The Inspiron series by Dell has proved to be an amazing experience when it comes to productivity and entertainment fronts but it sometimes lacks on points dealing with startup issues.

So, if you’re ...
... frustrated with slow boot speed of your laptop, then here are a few useful tips to get your system up and running faster.

Uninstall all the unnecessary programs

Many of you might have installed or downloaded software program on your device, thinking that you'll use it often. But, possibly after a few months, you might realize that you haven't even opened it once. The software is occupying ample space on your hard drive but it is not catering to any of the functionalities that you wish to do on your machine. Hence, this unwanted install is collecting cyber dust on your PC and slows it down.

This is the correct time to spot all those unwanted and unnecessary programs and remove it from the list that makes software ready during system boot up. To do the same, go to ‘Control Panel’ and click on the ‘Add or Remove Programs’ option. Now, from the appeared list choose the programs that you wish to uninstall and click on the ‘Remove’ button located on the extreme corner of the page. Once you’ve clicked the remove button, the uninstall window will open and then click the ‘Finish’ button, once uninstalling process is completed.

Scan your Dell regularly for viruses and other threats

Maintain a habit of scanning your machines at regular intervals to make sure that it is safe from viruses, malware, spyware and other threats. Potential anti-virus software can restrict the entry of such threats into your systems and also make you aware about their existence and attacking history. Scanning your machines will not only figure out the hidden viruses or malware but will also stop their access and launch at startup process.

There are chances of huge data loss, security threats, identity threats and damage of software as well as hardware components, once these viruses start transmitting. Strong malware and virus attacks may leave hardware and software components of your Dell Inspiron in an irreparable condition. Spyware activation may result in disclosing all your personal as well as financial data to hijackers who may cause financial and identity thefts.

Keep big files off the desktop

A laptop serves you as an excellent portable productivity PC that keeps you connected to your friends, family, clients and others during travelling to remote locations. One of the prime reasons of its extensive usage amongst business and personal users is that it can carry a huge amount of data anytime, anywhere. But what will you do if your desktop is cluttered with a lot of heavy applications and it is causing a delay in system startup?

It is always recommended to keep your desktop clean and clear in order to speed up the startup process. If you are a download freak or have a habit of downloading a lot of stuff from the Internet, then try to assign a different folder to them rather than keeping it on the desktop. A cluttered and occupied desktop may result in slow startup and a lot of confusion, while looking for a particular file. Hence, always try to move non-essential files into a separate folder.

Change Boot priority

To reduce your Dell’s notebook boot time, it is recommended to ensure that the BIOS boots off from the internal hard disk drive initially. Generally, the BIOS is configured to boot off from the optical disk drive and then from the other devices before attempting the final boot off from the hard drive. You can easily change this setting, by simply entering the BIOS through function or ESC key. Now try to navigate to the Boot menu and choose Internal Hard Disk Drive as the first priority from the Boot Priority list. Additionally, some notebooks allow you to enable an option for Quick Boot, which ignores the number of tests conducted by BIOS during system startup.

Install essential software and download their updates regularly

It is advised to install enhanced security software on your devices by Dell to avoid various viruses and malware threats. Most of you might not pay attention towards the security level offered by a particular website, before accessing its content. Hence, this makes the work of hijacker and malware authors a bit easier as they can secretly send various infections to your system through that network and cause irreparable damage to your machines.

In order to safeguard your gadget against the several categories of maliciously targeted programs, you should always install an antivirus program. Only installation won’t help, you should also keep them updated by downloading all the essential downloads offered by the vendors, generally available on the vendor’s site for free.

Above mentioned are some of the tips to keep your Dell Inspiron system up and running faster. Apart from these, disabling non-essential hardware, installing a good registry cleaner, turning on quick boot in the BIOS, eliminating boot delays and installing a solid-state drive can also help in making your system run faster. Unused fonts can be one of the reasons behind slow or delayed startup, therefore it is recommended to hide those fonts that are not in use or are unwanted. Be careful while using registry cleaners and uninstalling unwanted programs as some important file or program might get accidently deleted/uninstalled, which may lead your computer to stop responding.
