Education is not something that should be taken for granted, and there are associations that take this seriously. The seriousness of standards is usually highlighted in education institutions who are offering college courses because before they can establish a particular college program, they need to pass several accreditations.

Dental education is no stranger to this process because the standards are either at par or higher compared to other degrees in college. This stems from the concept that most of the authority figures in the medical field are particular of the patient’s safety because one mistake could mean the life of the patient even if it only means mistake done on the dentition of the patient.

The group responsible for enforcing such standards for dental education is the Commission on Dental Accreditation. This commission schedules meetings twice a year in order to go through applications for accreditations. It is the moment when applications from different universities and colleges from all over the country are being reviews by the members of the commission whether or not the program ...
... is worth making a visit to. There are also times when they do not conduct a visit just yet. Instead, they take a long at the facilities through the input that the administration of the program has placed in the application; this already includes the paperwork necessary. If they do not see the program worth taking a visit to, they might just you a notice what areas needs improvement.

The Commission on Dental Accreditation has different standards depending on the kind of dental education the program is more inclined with. There are different inclinations when it comes to this field in medical education. For example, there are different standards which were set for those in the allied dental education programs compared to those who are in the enrolled in the pre-doctoral dental education.

Recently, the commission just made changes with the standards that they already set for the different fields of dental education. They have the power to do so if they see that there is a need. Most of the times, these changes are affected by what are being presented by the world of professionals. What they see lack in the practice; they go back to the system of education that are being provided to these students, especially when it comes to the basics. To most institutions, this may be an exaggeration, but to the committee, it is necessary.

The Committee on Dental Accreditation always updates the standards of dental education because they want to adapt to the changing times. Results of research are also taken into consideration in the amendments that are being made. All these are done in order to make sure that graduates of the programs are competent enough to provide professionals services once they get their licenses. Colleges and universities may complain, but they cannot do anything about it.

On the other hand, they do not have the right to complain because it is still for the profession, in general. If the dental education standards do not cope with the times, the number of dentists might decline and it will be the educational institutions themselves who will suffer.
