It is no secret that many Americans are enamored with the Ford Mustang, which has been one of the highest selling models for decades in the country. But the car was also recently voted one of the most popular models among European drivers as well. This comes as a surprise to many people who might expect a BMW or Volvo to top the list. But the American made car has proven to top the list over any of these other competitors. If you haven't been following the car over the past years, you might be wondering just what it is that sets this model apart.

First, the Ford Mustang carries an undeniable sense of style with it. It was one of the original pony style cars, which emerged during the 1960s. These became popular among fans of the muscle cars that were prominent just a decade earlier. All of these cars typically featured a two seat design and a fair amount of horsepower. This new poll was conducted by AutoScout24, which is an up and coming online auto shopping site based in Europe. The site polled over 75,000 users from all over the European continent. Many of the respondents came from countries such as Germany, which have their own prominent car manufacturers. The results of the poll were a resounding success for the Ford Mustang, which came out as the clear winner. This provided an interesting bit of insight in to how certain countries tend to view American made cars like the Ford Mustang.

You might be interested in reading about how some different European countries perceived the Mustang, especially as compared to other cars out there. Among all the Europeans polled, 37 percent said they would prefer the Ford Mustang over all other cars out on the market. The Mustang was most popular in Austria, where it received 42 percent of the vote. It also garnered a lot of support from Spain, with 41 percent of the total vote. This may indicate how much global appeal the car has created over the decades that it has been available through international Ford dealers.

There were a few other surprises in the poll as well. German car enthusiasts voted that they would prefer the Mustang over many other models out there. About 34 percent voted that they would want to drive the Mustang. By contrast, the VW Bulli and VW Beetle were able to get 14 percent of the vote from Germans.

In all, this is welcome news for the Ford Motor Company. They are planning a new release of the Ford Mustang, in celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2014. They may want to take a look at expanding in to some European markets after seeing polling data like this.
