A German firm Marklin, which specialized in dollhouse accessories, rolled out the first model train, in 1891, with track system and ran with clockwork. The first model trains, earlier to Marklin models, of the 1840's ran on steam filling the model with water and placing it on a heating surface. Other company followed Marklin.
