We all want to cut back on our monthly outgoings and now more than ever we need to make our pay check go as far as possible. Here are three ways that you can save money in the long-term if you use a little money and effort now. You will even be able to reduce your carbon footprint.

Energy efficient boiler These condensing boilers use the power from the exhaust gases that would normally be expelled through the flue to turn the water vapour back into liquid water, i.e. condensing it, therefore as little heat as possible is lost through the flue. Not only is this good for the environment, saving around 875kg of CO2 each year, but you're heating bills will be around £170 less.

They also have more heat control settings, so you can set a timer to make sure your heating is only on when you need and you can control the heat in every room with individual radiator thermostats. This could save you a further £100.

The initial expense of installing a new boiler has also been reduced this summer. British Gas is giving you the opportunity to buy a new or replacement boiler from them before 25 July and save over £850. ...
... This obviously includes the new boiler, but you'll also get free home care for one year in case anything goes wrong and free radiator heating and controls installation.

They gauge that these new boilers could save you a third on your heating bills. So this could mount up to a tidy savings over the boilers lifetime.

Insulation Did you know that half of all the heat in a house is lost through the walls and roof? If you install loft and cavity wall insulation you could save £365 per year on your heating bills.

Under the Carbon Emissions Reductions Target legislation you could qualify for a tax rebate of around £125 if you have the correct level of insulation installed. This will bring the total cost of insulating down to around £500, meaning it will pay for itself in less than two years.

Solar power You can get around 50% of your hot water from solar panels. In monetary terms this equates to around £100 per year. You will also be helping the environment because you will save around 645kg of CO2 emissions each year.

British Gas is not just a gas supplier. They are also a leading supplier of electricity. Save more by letting British Gas supply both your gas and electric.
