Dermabrasion
Want to wipe away those terrible acne scars? Try dermabrasion. Carried out by a dermatological surgeon, dermabrasion is a cosmetic medical procedure to enhance appearance through controlled surgical wearing away (scraping).
Dermabrasion is a surgical option that could improve these marks for you, making you feel more happy and confident with your appearance. The method used in dermabrasion is controlled surgical scraping.
Short term side-effects associated with the dermabrasion procedure include redness, scarring, swelling, and permanent skin darkening caused by sun exposure following surgery, and hyperpigmentation of the treated area.
Apart from making scars, wrinkles, and acne look better, dermabrasion effectively treats skin complaints such as keratoses, sun damage, age spots and pigmentation. It is used in the treatment or removal of:
Facial wrinkles
Acne scars
Dark spots
Pox marks
Age spots
Skin lesions
Accident caused scars
Keratoses
A superficial wound is created, ...
... outer skin layers are removed, and skin surface irregularities are made better. Skin that has been affected by aging, scarring, hyper-pigmentation or sun exposure can be freshened up through microdermabrasion.
True scars are produced by the healing process itself (often resulting from the creation of fibrous tissue) and represent a permanent change to your skin tissue. Boxcar scars are shallower than icepick scars and can be treatment using skin resurfacing techniques.
Dermabrasion is a form of treatment used to treat a wide range of different skin conditions, including mild (and sometimes moderate} acne scarring. In many cases, once the skin heals naturally, acne scar disappear altogether and, where this is not the case, they are usually very much less evident.
Microdermabrasion can be effective in cases of very mild acne scarring but generally does not produce as good results as are seen with dermabrasion.
Surgery, using a technique known as 'punching' is often used to remove some icepick scars. An icepick scar is cut out down to the subcutaneous fat layer and the resulting hole is then repaired either using sutures or a small skin graft. Scars can also be repaired using subcisions which involve lifting the scar tissue away from unscarred skin
Dermabrasion and laser Resurfacing are very effective treatments for acne scars that are light or shallow. In dermabrasion, the skin layers are removed which helps in the development of a new skin layer free of blemishes. The scar marks are thus removed with the old skin and the new skin will grow blemish less.
Dermabrasion is most effective when there is no acne as well as no other skin infection. There are various types of dermabrasion, superficial and deep dermabrasions are important among them. Deep dermabrasion removes the epidermis layer from the skin and reaches the dermis layer.
This layer has most of the scars, so removing this layer removes the majority of scars when a new top layer is formed. Originally, sandpaper was used to scrape away damaged skin, allowing new skin to grow in its place. Dermabrasion is most effective on shallow acne scars.
Laser resurfacing uses lasers to remove the damaged skin and tightens the middle layer, leaving skin smoother. Penetration depth into the skin is more easily controlled with a laser than with dermabrasion and other methods.
