If you have to define metal fabrication, in simple terms it means the basic process of combining the operation that can be used to create sometime out of metal like fabricated equipment parts. The various equipments that are used to do this operation is laser cutting machines, matching centers, rollers, metal shears, water-jets, welding machines, turret punches, etc.

Do you what are the most common kinds of metals used? They are stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and the list goes on and on. The most common thing that metal fabricators to in order to make metal or steel container parts is to purchase metal in various shapes of bar, sheet, and tubing. Once this is done, then the process of fabrication is started.

One of the biggest advantage or usefulness of metal sheets is that they are often used at a starting basis and that too for producing a large variety of metal or fabricated equipment parts and they can also be purchased in variety of thickness or gauge. There is an easy means of differentiating between a sheet and plate. When the sheet is about 3/16 or more than that then it is referred as a plate. ...

Sheets can be fabricated into variety of items like augers, electronic enclosures, industrial machinery, electronic enclosures, machine components, brackets, food processing equipments, etc. The first step in making or creating steel container parts is using the sheet metal fabrication process. This process consist of either laser cut, shear or punching shapes into the metal.

The basic equipments used for these procedure are metal shear, turret punch and laser. At times all these equipments are often used in this operation, especially when the metal is in flat shape. So once the basic or standard shape is achieved, then the metal is send to the press brake machine where bends will be made.

This process of making the bends is called forming. Do you know how the bend or the basic series of bend are used in the formation of metal. The dies which are of various shapes are used in the so called press brake in order to make a series of bend or one bend and that too to form a metal which is as specified on the given prints.

To conclude, metal pressing or formation is a continuous process and it requires one to have extensive knowledge about how the metal can be bended and controlled to form the desired product.
