How To Reset Password Ofr Cisco 1941/k9 ?

It is common scenario that people forget their password for accessing their router. It causes a great deal of inconvenience and is really unnerving. But one should not get panic stricken as there is a way to recover your password at the expense of loss of all the previous configurations.

The enable password password can be recovered, but the enable secret password is encrypted and must be replaced with a new password. Use the procedure described in this document in order to replace the enable secret password.Following is an easy step by step guide to recover your password for CISCO 1941/K9 and relieve yourself out of such situation:

1.First of all you would need to connect your PC to the router. Use the console port or Auxiliary port of router to connect. If you are not familiar with the cabling of your router, you should consult the cabling manual included with the purchase of router.

2.Now you need to record the configuration register settings. That can be accomplished by using the "Show Version" command which would show ...
... you configuration register setting as 0x2102 or 0x102. If by any means you are not being able to access your router, you can assume the value to be 0x2102.

3.Now you would be required to turn off the router and turn it back on.

4.After you observe the message "Program load complete", you would be required to press "BREAK" two to three times on the terminal keyboard. This would bring the values of entry point and size for ROMMON. Note them.

5.Now you will observe a prompt "rommon 1>". Type "confreg 0x2142" or the "configuration register" value you obtained in step 2 to boot from flash.

6.Reset the router by typing "RESET" in the prompt.

7.Now you would be greeted with setup questions on the restart. Skip them by pressing Ctrl-C.

8.Now type enable at the "Router>" prompt to enter privilege mode.

9.Now you would be required to enter "configure memory" in the prompt to copy the NVRAM to the memory. Make sure you don't enter "Copy run start" as it would erase your startup configuration.

10.Now you can enter the configuration mode by typing "configure terminal" and set your passwords as you required.
