You may understand why O2 give it the name "Cocoon" upon you get your first sight on it. Based on the basic features, it's a full-featured phone encased in a really cute and ergonomic looking white clamshell platform.

Looks along make the O2 Cocoon a good thing to pickup; it's plain white exterior - except the sides and a few parts where the camera and the flip up joints are located - has a really clean appeal that exudes sophistication and an almost Zen-type of class. The interior, when the phone is flipped up, is black, with a good 2.28-inch, QVGA screen and clear, crisp, and tactile buttons. Frequent SMS users will be especially be thrilled by the tactile keys, making text messaging an easier and more pleasant experience.

Outside In

As mentioned, the design is really very Zen-like, very appealing in its simplicity with its predominantly white design. The O2 Cocoon has dedicated music buttons for the player that operates when the clamshell is shut; included is an easy to use volume dial.

Another thing that makes the O2 Cocoon cooler are the hidden externalLED display at the back that displays previews ...
... of text messages, caller details, and time. Especially paired up with it's dock, the Cocoon really looks like a really cool and small alarm clock.

The Features

Another amazing feature about O2 Cocoon is the humongous internal on-board memory - a whooping 2gb, which is expandable to another 2gb - which makes for about a grand total of 1000 songs.

The music player is also a major feature in the O2 Cocoon, which has plays both MP3 and AAC files, and has adjustments to bass and other equalizer features. Standard features like shuffle play are also included, with any album art also displayed. When the phone is closed, then the music player is controlled by the dedicated buttons on the side, and through the music player interface when the clamshell is open. The LED also displays track names, which is plus points on the coolness factor. There are included headphones for the Cocoon's music player or for the FM radio, but you are able to buy your own courtesy of the added 3.5mm jack slot. The phone also supports Bluetooth headsets. 3G is also responsive and this phone delivers well in that aspect.

Don't expect too much from this 2 megapiexl snapper as it's pretty much basic, and requires a bit of customization on your part for you to be able to access it easily. There is also a VGA internal camera for video calls. And like many phone cameras, it is difficult to use in low light situations.

The user interface is far to be said to be groundbreaking, but it is straightforward and easy to use which is just the very thing most users really care. The Li-Ion battery is fairly okay when you aren't a heavy text messager, but is slightly lacking when it comes to frequent usage. It's quad band though, so it is usable internationally.

To Sum Up

All things considered, the O2 Cocoon has all the features a modern music camera phone should have, and is guaranteed to make you stand out. The features of the Cocoon, as well as the it's cool white clamshell design offer good value for the money, as long as you can take in the minor defects and cons. No phone is perfect though, so should you choose another model, you're bound to find some lemons in there as well, so in the end, if you've set your heart on the O2 Cocoon, then there's nothing wrong with buying it. It's pretty unique too, so you can also consider the novelty factor.
