In spite of responsive web design tools being around for over 2 years, it is still concerned a relatively new technology among developers. Website owners and developers are all going on an overdrive to pursue DotNetNuke migrations among many other changes to facilitate effective accessibility of websites across a range of devices.

Website designers are faced with the mammoth task of creating perfect websites that offer the right levels of responsiveness for its users. Performing a PSD to Dot Net Nuke migration for enhanced responsiveness isn’t a simple task. Here are a few commonly experienced concerns with responsive web designing.

• Explaining the Importance of Responsiveness to the Clients

Since the beginning of the internet and the advent of web development, designers have formed a habit of following the same procedural requirements of analysis and specification. This means a standard briefing is performed by the client followed by recommendations put forth by the developers. However, when one talks about responsive web design, it becomes a little challenging to explain. With tough technical ...
... jargons such as ‘media queries’ and ‘break points’ featuring frequently in the recommendation, many clients simply opt out of responsive design because of its perceived complexity.

Solution

Instead of explaining the concepts verbally, it is best to show your clients what is actually means for their business. Showing live examples of responsiveness is easier by simply bringing together a laptop, a tablet and a smart phone. This way the client is able to experience the difference first hand and understand its importance.

• Bringing Consistency in Navigation

A responsive design without consistency is good as developing two different websites that are completely unrelated. Today, navigation is becoming more and more complex and a major concern for responsive web developers. To be able to solve problems related to navigation, it is best to keep the design cool and consistent. While it is conventional to opt for a horizontal structure, web designers must select a navigation strategy that is related to the design considerations, content structure and information architecture.

• Concern of Visualization

Just like navigation, managing images on a responsive website is also rather challenging. As of now, there is no specified tool or method pertaining to responsive images that is released by the W3C community. This means that you as a designer have the freedom to personalize the scripts and fill in the functionalities that are missing. With the introduction of several hand held devices that are smaller and even faster than conventional PCs and laptops, web designers needs to consider each possible device to ensure that the website remains responsive. For instance, if the icons and the images of the website are not flexible or badly scaled, they will appear to be blurred on devices that come with high pixel density.

Finally, there is a major difference between converting an old website into a responsive design and creating a new one from scratch. Most designers face deep uncertainty when making a selection between these two options. In case you are considering a DotNetNuke Migration for example, all you need to do is reverse engineer all your current style sheets and templates. However, there is no way a developer can guarantee a smooth scalability in such a situation since technologies are evolving by the minute and design norms and trends are changing equally fast.
