When you obtain a trademark for a company name, you get more legal rights than someone who merely has a company name, but not a registered trademark. It is important to note that, when you just have a trademark you can use the letter TM after the company name or logo; but once you have registered the trademark, you are allowed to use the letter R embedded in a circle or the word Red. to be used after the company name or logo. Needless to say, a registered trademark has more legal standing than a nonregistered one.
