We were remodeling our house and started by doing research on building materials, contractors, and more specifically kitchen cabinets. The best way we found to do this research was online, originally we looked through the yellow pages, but that method is almost obsolete. Now that online shopping is everywhere, we felt comfortable enough to look up the things we need and then proceed to order these items online. AS for the contractor, we stayed local, found a few reputable businesses and choose one with good references.

First the building material we need was found online, but it actually was more practical to buy these items (lumber, dry wall, nails, etc) at local stores. We found that the prices at stores like Home Depot or Lowe's were comparable to prices at our local hardware supply stores, but we received much better service at the local stores. It appears that the big box hardware stores have good prices on a few items, but overall the savings was not huge. Also when we factored in the lack of customer service, it was just better to go to the local stores.

When looking online, for kitchen cabinets, ...
... we performed a Google search for RTA kitchen cabinets. The reason for this was we already knew that RTA style products are just as good as assembled products and are traditionally lower in cost. For those of you who do not know what RTA is - it is not a brand name; instead it is an acronym for ready to assemble. These RTA kitchen cabinets and RTA bathroom vanities come in all the sizes, colors, and styles of traditional cabinets, but because you have to assemble the product, the cost is significantly less. We were trying to save money and we already had used RTA products from Target, so we were satisfied with the RTA style, however we were concerned about the use of particle board. So when we looked for RTA kitchen cabinets, we made sure that we were only looking cabinets that were made from solid wood fronts and paneled wood sides.

After finding these kitchen cabinets online and comparing prices at a few websites, we decided to place the order and wait for our product. Again, before we ordered we did some research and found that the bigger RTA websites held a large supply of these cabinets - which meant a quicker delivery time for us. We actually found that some of the smaller RTA cabinet sites were buying from the larger sites and then just re-selling the same product. (So make sure you search a few RTA sites and compare prices). In the end we received the cabinets and upon receipt (while the delivery driver was still present) we inspected the cardboard boxes for damages, and then started opening the boxes. We were happy with the ease of assembly and even more excited about the look of the cabinets. In the end buying RTA kitchen cabinets online was a positive experience and I would recommend it to people who are searching for quality kitchen cabinets at a reasonable price.
