Lifestyle Design Is An Increasing Area
Success in general can be defined in a lot of ways; ask 100 people with regards to definition and you'll probably get 100 unique descriptions. But what studies are now finding is that overall, the way we approach success is very different than it was 30 years ago.
If we go back some sort of generation or two, workers (typically male) described success with regards to money and power. One of the reasons girls (and increasingly men as well) get lost as definition is our lives are so much more than the money we earn or the power we command while on the job.
We hold equally important stuff like our family, our health, our friendships plus the way we give back to communities. We recognize our interests deep inside, and look for strategies to bring them to light in numerous ways as possible.
Our jobs may be part of who we are. But that doesn't mean our full concentration and all of our thoughts and energy are centered around it. Instead, we try to find ways to enjoy our careers AND anything else in our lives as properly.
If a company recognizes this particular and gives you flexibility in how you do your ...
... job, maybe you are much happier with your job. If they hold you to your strict timetable, both in terms of once you come into work and the hours you work as soon as you get there, probably not a great deal.
People today have a lot taking in their daily routines. They may have to manage a parent still living of their own home with beginning signs of Alzheimer's, as well as a family acquainted with several small children. They stands out as the coach for their daughters' softball team, as well as chairperson because of their industry's local association. They might be on a running club about the weekends, and book clubs throughout the week. They know what's important inside their lives and increasingly devoting 40, 50, 60 hours a week or higher to a position that may or might not be there in a year isn't cutting it.
Why should we devote a whole lot of time to something that we don't know if it will benefit us whenever we need it the most? Why not spend our occasion and our energy on something which will be there because we develop it into something more along the route?
If you work for "the boss", you'll almost be asked to work your 40 hours, plus any overtime dictated in the top whether you get purchased it or not. Vacations? Fewer people are taking them due to the fear of what will happen to their position while they are generally away. Health insurance? We're paying an increasing number of of it ourselves, with companies kicking in less continuously. Pensions? We see what's happening to today's retirees as the pensions they thought would end up being there slowly (or quickly in a few cases) slip away.
Maybe you adore your job. Maybe you love your situation. Yet not realizing its limitlessness now's almost like living in circumstances of denial. If you depend on it now and sometime soon, for all of your needs through retirement and until the day you die, you're likely in for a rude waking up. A very rude one really.
Lifestyle design doesn't mean getting rid of your job today. It means designing your life in a fashion that benefits you the most. It means setting up your 24 hours in a day, 7 days in the full week, any way you choose and see fit for your family.
That may mean working the 40 hour job indefinitely.
It may be finding a way to create a business out of this BIG IDEA now so that you can start earning money off than it in the coming months. Sort of a security policy if the current job disappears in your months or years ahead.
It can be having more flexibility in your existing position - maybe going part time so you have the time to fit in all your family's needs, from your mom identified as having Alzheimer's, to your bookclub on Thursday nights. And a not much time for turning your passion in to a business as well.
Lifestyle design means chilling at the beach with young kids while they're young; not regretting time you didn't spend with them whenever they are off at college.
Lifestyle design means enjoying a trip world wide now, rather than waiting for the "someday" that most probably will never be if you wait until your 60s, 70s or maybe beyond.
What's your lifestyle design definition? Anything you want it for being. And that's the true beauty of the usb ports. And its also why its here to remain, whether you love the phrase or not.
