Talking To Your Child About Bed Wetting
If your child is suffering from bed wetting problems there are a few things you must know about the issue. Often the situation is quite distressing for your child and it may lead to lower self-esteem in them. In such situation, a parent needs to be more careful in helping the child regain his confidence and deal with the problem. There are few dos and don’ts that you must follow while discussing the problem with your child.
Dos
Educate yourself: There are several parents who are unaware of facts related to bed-wetting. Some consider it an abnormality in their child. It is very important that you educate yourself before taking the issue up with your child. There are about 5 to 7 million children suffer from this problem and boys are often twice likely to have the issue.
Educate your child: Children suffering from the problem are prone to have lower self-esteem. It is therefore important to educate your child and help him dealing with the issue in more dignified way. He must know that it is a common problem and affecting many other children like him and so, there is no shame and the problem can be cured. ...

Develop habits: Helping him develop habits like going to the bathroom before bed, avoiding caffeine, coke or salty food close to bedtime would help him stay dry at night. Consult doctor: Your child must know that whenever help is required there are doctors and specialists. Often the problem of bedwetting is related to a psychological stress that the child must have experienced in early days of infancy. A doctor can help in identifying the root cause and curing the problem.
Make him responsible: Encourage your child to take responsibility when he wets bed. Ask his to help with laundering if he is old enough. This will make him more confident and less ashamed of his problem.
Don’ts
Don’t scoff your child if he has wetted bed in the night. Rather try to develop healthy habits in him. Nighttime enuresis is quite uncommon and your child must know that there is nothing to be ashamed of.
Don’t stress yourself. Sometimes it takes more time in some children to develop coordination between brain and bladder and the problem will be solved with time. Your child isn’t going to graduate in diapers anyway.
Most importantly don’t punish your child; rather encourage him to follow bedwetting treatment with success.
