How To Help Your Child With Bed Wetting Issues
The subject of bed wetting is often stressful for both the child and parents. Even when some kids are out of their nappies may still need support during nights. The problem can persist for a long time and turn into a menace. Though there is nothing to fear as abnormality in the child the problem must still be addressed with care.
Doctors have often suggested that the problems of bed wetting can grow from some psychological issues experienced by the child at early stage of life, like – discord between parents, divorce, changing home or a new baby in the household are some of the common causes. Aside, there can also be medical and hereditary reasons (often someone in the family or amongst relatives has the same problem) but the percentage is insignificant. Nonetheless, it can cause serious emotional and behavioral awkwardness in the child and therefore, it is very important that the child receives help in dealing with the problem.
The issue of bed wetting can put further stress on child’s mind and as parent you must help him/her alleviating that stress.
As a parent it is very important to keep ...
... patience. Your child may already be suffering from deep sense of shame or social awkwardness which contributes to low self-esteem, so doesn’t make the situation worse by rebuking them. Your objective would be to minimize negative emotional impact on your child.
Often children with the problem tend to become introvert thinking that they only have the problem. Talking to your child in helping him understand that bed wetting is quite a common problem and it is no fault of his. A study has estimated that almost 5 to 7 million children between the age six to fifteen suffer from nighttime bed wetting issues and it normally get resolved with time. In some children it takes longer for the brain and bladder to develop coordination.
If there is no solution in sight, talk to your child’s pediatrician. He can carry out series of tests to eliminate any chance of abnormality and explain to your child that there are others too with the same problem.
While you and your child deal with the issue it is important to offer him/her some support during night. Disposable Nappies and Overnight Nappies of different sizes are available for children between eight and fifteen years of age. It will prevent leakage during night so your child can wake up in the morning dry.
Often the issue is more psychological and physiological. It has been seen in many cases that the child grows out of the problem soon after (s)he visits a doctor or specialist.
