Georgian furniture refers to the design styles that were popular in Britain in the 18th century. Although, it was named after George I, it was actually built on different styles and was popular until the time of George IV. That is why; it is also called the Neo-Classical and Regency style. The strong influences were Roman and Greek, French aristocratic trends and Gothic revival. It is distinguished by simple elegance and was uncluttered. Most of the pieces were refined and dainty. Dark wood was used especially mahogany, walnut, oak and maple. For fancy furniture, lacquering, wood inlays, gliding and marquetry were quite common. Typical pieces included winged armchairs, corner cupboards, chaise-longues, roll-up desks and bureaus, circular and side tables. Popular designers were Chippendale, Thomas Sheraton and George Hepplewhite.

People who love antiques would definitely fall in love with Georgian furniture as they are rare and timeless pieces.
