Spiritual Attractions In Bangalore
Bangalore is enriched with religious and spiritual cultures, which can be witnessed in the numerous religious places muffling Kannada art, culture and tradition. The city is also the home to several India's spiritual gurus as well.
Reckoned as one of the most spiritual places in South India, Bangalore is blessed with number of places of worship. Someshwara Temple is yet another architectural masterpiece in Bangalore. The temple is situated at Ulsoor and has striking features like Rajagopuram, a huge pillar known as Dwajasthamba. As the name suggest the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Banashankari Temple is famous for the deity that is worshipped during thre Rahukala (inauspicious time of the day). The temple was built in 1915 and is located in Kanakapura Road.
Naganatheshwara Temple is 1,200 year old temple, which was built by the great Cholas. The temple is located in the Begur village, about 13 kilometeres away from Bangalore. The place holds importance as it is considered where an inscription record was found with its original names of Bengaluru. The best time to visit this scared shrine is during the festival of Maha Shivratri, when devotees swarm up to perform puja.
The Saint Mary's Basilica is a French made small chapel. Built in 1882, it is amongst the oldest churches of Bangalore. The church is known for its Gothic style of architecture and plush interior. The best time to visit this church is during the Saint Mary’s Feast, which celebrated on September 8 each year. A huge procession is also held during the feast.
Infant Jesus is one of the ancient churches in the city. Located in Vivek Nagar, the church welcomes flock of any caste and religion. Built in 1979, it is famed as a place for divinity and miracles. Special services are held on each Thursday here.
The Jumma Masjid is located in the busy city market. It is considered as the oldest mosque in the city. Built in 1790, this five storied mosque is also the largest mosque, which can accommodate a crowd of 10,000 people. The jail work and the floral motifs along with white marble adds grace to the structure. Festival time is the best time to visit this Muslim shrine.
