Holiday Packages And Popular Tourist Attractions In Lakshadweep
A group of islands in the Laccadive Sea between 200 and 240 kilometers off the south-west coast constitute Lakshadweep which was formerly known as Laccadive, Minicoy, and Amindivi islands. The word Lakshadweep in Sanskrit literally means a group of one lakh islands. It is presently a union territory of India with a town called Kavaratti as its capital. Lakshadweep, an archipelago comprising three reefs, twelve atolls and five submerged banks have a total of around thirty nine islets and islands. Of all the islands only ten are inhabited, seventeen uninhabited, four islets newly formed as well as five submerged reefs. The inhabitants speak Malayalam, the language of the nearest state of Kerala.
The tourists can travel to the main islands Kavaratti, Minicoy, Agatti, Amini, Keltan, Chetlat, Bitra, Perumal Par, Kadat, Androth, Kalpeni, Suheli Par, Pitti to name a few. They can enjoy the scenic beauty of nature in all its manifestations. The abundance of marine fauna and water sports activities available make the island a paradise for tourists.
The water sports like wind surfing, scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling, canoeing, water skiing, kayaking, water skiing, night voyages into the sea and yachting are some of the activities which are tourists’ attractions. The tourists throng these islands throughout the year except the rainy season.
Agatti island the only airport of Lakshadweep and it connects Kochi in the mainland. The remaining islands are connected by Pawan Hans’s helicopters and boat services. The six ships connecting Kochi with Lakshadweep are M.V. Aminidivi, M.V. Kavaratti, M.V. Minicoy, M.V. Arabian, M.V. Bharath Seema and M.V. Lakshadweep. While all tourists need a visa to tour the island, the foreign nationals are barred from visiting certain islands. The tour operators offer many attractive holiday packages and take care of all the concerns of tourists visiting the island group. The tourists can enjoy marine lives and water sports activities to their hearts’ content.
