College can be staggering. The idea of setting out on your own and becoming immersed in a new group is somewhat daunting. If you aren't sure you will survive your college years, check out this article. Use the tips you find most useful, and you should be less intimidated by the whole college scene.

Try not to set yourself up to fail when scheduling your classes. When you are a night person, you'll struggle with morning classes. You should know how your sleep schedule will affect your education.

Remember that you have to eat healthy foods. The freshman fifteen pounds is not urban legend. You have to watch what you eat. Try not to eat too many on the go foods like pizza or fast food. The foods may be low in cost initially, but these costs add up, and so do the pounds they create.

Before you make your final decision on which college to attend, thoroughly research your intended major and career choice. This will guarantee the courses needed for the degree you want to get are offered by the college. Speak with your admissions director to make sure the necessary courses are available.

If you have selected ...
... a career, research on it as much as possible before you select a college. This will allow you to know what college has the classes you must take so you're able to get a degree that gets you into the field of your choice. Meet with the director of admissions to verify the needed courses are available.

Ride the bus to campus. Often times, the time it takes to ride the bus is about the same as it would be to drive there. You can cut out the time normally spent on searching for parking spots. You will also never have to pay the high gas prices or for parking. You can consider using public transportation as an energy efficient mode of transportation that is your contribution to a "green" world.

Get your sleep! College and all-nighters go hand in hand, but it is important that you get enough rest. You may think you'll do okay if you mess around with your sleep, but lack of sleep makes schoolwork harder. You'll have trouble memorizing and recalling many things, and you will struggle with just about everything.

To avoid the dreaded "freshman 15," maintain a healthy diet and avoid simple carbs. Don't eat processed, sugary snacks and meals. Eat fresh produce and whole grains to maintain energy levels and stay healthy. A diet with too much protein can lead to health problems.

Never rest on your laurels from high school. The college experience is an entirely different animal than high school; no one is going to care about what you did when you were in high school. Push yourself to the limit, as this will help you to reach your potential.

Your college will have a department which can help you find a job while you're attending school. In addition to helping students find jobs after graduating, campus career centers can also help undergraduates find part time employment on the campus or in the surrounding community.

Frequent the library at your university. College libraries have the resources necessary to succeed in all of the classes offered on campus. Ask the librarian for assistance in locating the needed study materials, but remember to whisper! Many times libraries have a board that had textbooks for sale too.

As was mentioned earlier in this article, starting college can be nerve racking. But, if you properly use the above tips, college will be enjoyable. Just keep in mind that you'll be able to look at the past and remember it fondly later.
