Iphone Development Mobile Applications
Even if you haven't personally used an iPhone, you've surely heard of it and seen others use it. You may have even wondered what all the fuss is about.
So, for those who aren't completely familiar with this little marvel of technology, here is a brief outline that may help clear up any confusion:
What is the iPhone?
The iPhone is a multimedia smart phone made by Apple. It combines an iPod, a tablet PC, a digital camera and a cellular phone.
It can browse the internet and has network capabilities.
The iPhone does not have a physical keyboard, but it has a virtual keyboard on a multi-touch screen that is manipulated with interface control elements: sliders, switches, and buttons.
There is a status bar across the top of the screen that displays data such as the time, signal strength and battery level.
Many of the applications included with the iPhone were designed to work together; which means that you can share data from one application to another.
An Arm-based processor is the central processing unit in the iPhone.
Some of the included applications of the 2.2 version ...
... iPhone are:
SMS Text messaging
Calendar
Photos
Camera
YouTube
Stocks
Maps
Weather
Clock
Calculator
Notes
Settings
iTunes
App Store and Contacts.
Four other applications define the iPhone's main purposes: Phone, Mail, Safari, and iPod.
How Did iPhone Come Into Being?
Apple pioneered the development of the iPhone when the CEO of Apple directed that engineers look into touchscreens. The device was created in a top secret collaboration with AT&T Mobility at an estimated cost of $150 million. It was 30 months in development.
The project was so highly secretive that codenames and even fake prototypes were used to keep it under wraps!
On January 9, 2007 the iPhone was unveiled to the general public. The announcement actually came several months before the iPhone got its approval from the FCC and went on sale.
The iPhone went on sale June 29, 2007.
270,000 iPhones were sold during the first 30 hours.
The rest, as they say, is history!
The iPhone was named Time Magazine's Invention of the Year for 2007.
The Internet meets Multi-Touch
In the iPhone, Web applications combine the vastness of the internet with the user friendly simplicity of multi-touch technology.
On the 3-?" liquid crystal display screen, you can quickly flick through the news on Digg, play Sudoku or Bejeweled with just the tap of a finger, check movie times or train schedules, and touch base with your favorite blogs.
If you want more web applications for your iPhone, you can just visit Apple's website. There is a list of 1700 additional web apps, and it's still growing!
Or, if you aren't interested in any of the existing web applications, you can write your own!
When your new iPhone web application is all ready to go, you can submit it to Apple for possible listing on their site.
Who knows?
You might develop something really big!
