From the largest concert with 100,000 attendees to a private wedding with 100 guests, event planners are digging out new ways to organize, plan, and promote their events with the help of social media. Planners realize that there’s more to social media than Facebook and understand that it’s all a game of their imagination, when social media has to be used.

There has to be more integration of social media into the lives of people as a way for businesses to promote their services, plans, and promote the events to bring the interaction full circle from the online world to the real world.

Let’s explore what’s working for the planners in the present and what holds for them in the future-

• Geo-location platform

This platform can go hand-in-hand with event planning. You surely want to know who showed up for your event and a lot of other intrinsic details. Basically, it is not just about promoting the events, but making social media as a core part of the event itself. For example- you can integrate Foursquare to plan an event like; you can create a badge that can serve as a pass for a party. ...

• Use creative ways to engage the attendees

The goal is to engage the audience in a conversation at the beginning of an event, during the event and when the event gets over. Use an innovative social media approach where people can connect with each other and spread the word. Plus3 is a GPS-enhanced social network that connects the people with various corporate sponsors for worthwhile causes. You can even get some training by doing some courses in event planning or a post graduate diploma in advertising.

With the use of such social media apps there is hope for better produced events with a lot of interacting and sharing.

• Use the magic of Twitter

For several people Twitter is a means to read news and to network and interact with friends and colleagues. In the event industry, the use of Twitter translates into a lot more exciting stuff. For them- Twitter becomes a tool to find the perfect hotel, DJ, venue, cake and a lot of other things. You spell it and someone in Twitter will be out there to help you out.

Planning an event like birthday parties and weddings can land you in diverse places. Planners use this medium to connect with friends and colleagues in the industry. If you’re planning a wedding in a foreign locale you can check out who the best photographers are in that particular place.

You can use it in pretty creative ways and it is so much more than just a blogging site. You can use Twitter to get instant feed backs and find solutions for it like for instance- if the temperature of a room is very cold, a person can use Twitter by adding a hash tag and address the issue with the manager. The manager of the event can address the issue right away and give you a better temperature.

The potential of this social medium is still untapped and once people become more aware they can actually use it a better way to get its real value. Even if you’re not planning any event in particular still you can use Twitter to build your business and your reputation. You can even shout out for other people’s events happening in the city. This way you can grow your network and you can have other people shouting out for your events too.

• Stay updated

Ultimately, it’s not just about your business it is about you too as an event planner. Event planning is a business and you have to prove and show it to the people that you’re the right person for the event. Stay updated and keep your website updated by regularly posting the pictures, videos, and tweets of your event. It all boils down to building your brand by spreading the word and interacting with the audiences on a regular basis.

IIMCM is a college where you can get the real exposure by getting hands-on training. You can get admission in advertising and PR courses and develop your skills and be ready to get into the market.
