They Don't Want You To Have These Dog Ownership Secrets

When you're at a pet store or at the pound you are probably thinking of how great the experience is going to be as soon as you get your dog. The dog you adopt might not fit your expectations exactly. Regardless of this, this article can help you take care of a dog very effectively.
Give your dog hugs, but don't kiss him. Your dog's mouth is fairly dirty at any given time. After all, dogs eat out of the garbage, drink from toilet bowls, and lick all over their body. It's just a myth that your dog's mouth is just as, or cleaner, than yours. This is completely wrong!
Neuter or spay the dog. Research suggests that this small thing can give extended life to your dog by reducing cancer risk. Additionally, dogs who undergo this procedure are much less likely to wander off and maybe get into to an accident.
Since humans don't speak dog, we need to figure out how to communicate with our pets non-verbally. You should never pressure your pet into interacting with strangers, be they human or canine. This could end up in negative biting or fighting behavior. Always be on the look out for non-verbal hints. If you see ...
... them, allow your dog to guide you in the next action you will take.
When you have to train a dog, your home and/or yard is the right place to do it. You do not want to train your dog around a bunch of people. There are too many distractions there.
Talk to your vet about your dog's food portions. Though some folks feed whatever the package recommends, those guidelines are not always appropriate and can lead to overfeeding. Your vet should be able to let you know what your dog's specific needs are.
Avoid the bargain brands of pet food. Less expensive brands of dog food often contain artificial coloring, additives, preservatives and so on that can be very bad for your dog. Use an animal advocacy group or some kind of consumer awareness group to see if you can get a list of good foods that are professionally recommended. Better food will be very beneficial to your dog.
Try not to force your dog to do new things. If your dog doesn't like a treat you give him, let it go. When you first get a dog, you should take some time to get to know what it likes and what it dislikes.
Clip your dog's nails. The nails can cause the dog discomfort if they start to curl under. You can purchase clippers and do this at home. Can't hack it? Take them to the groomer instead.
Make sure you provide your dog with affection on a regular basis. In life, it is far too common to give bad behavior more attention than good. This may eventually cause problems. Rather, be sure to give praise five times more frequently than you reprimand. This will reinforce that positive behavior brings due rewards, and thus lead to a better behaved pet.
Now that you have gone over this fantastic advice, you should make sure you don't ignore any of it. Use whatever you've learned and apply it and you should have the dog that you've always dreamed of owning. Make that dog a happy one that loves you unconditionally.
