As is known, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a server-based report generation software system from Microsoft. Reporting Services, a separate software tool in itself, was first released in 2004 as an add-on to the SQL Server in use then, the SQL Server 2000 and as technology galloped on unhindered, new features and user-specific customizations were made available through last year and are reported glitch-free and fully functional this year. Office 2013, especially Excel 2013, is reportedly very impressive and also represents a significant turning point for Microsoft Business Intelligence.

In 2012, Reporting Services introduced Power View, which, as Microsoft (see reference 1 below) clarifies, is “An interactive data exploration, visualization, and presentation experience for the Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise Edition.” Power View   reporting is a boon to users like data analysts, decision makers, and information workers, who can interact with data models based on PowerPivot, a built-in functionality of Excel 2013. Power View, is a browser-based ...
... application allowing users to interact within their organizations. Power View provides multiple views featuring tiles, slicers, a chart filter, and a number of visualizations, including cards, small multiples, and a bubble chart.

The integration of Power View into Excel is a significant new functionality, far superior to Power View in Sharepoint. Putting Power View into Excel effectively gives it away to all corporate customers and, as with PowerPivot, will remove a lot of barriers to adoption.

The fully updated SSRS (see reference 2 below) includes several state-of-the-art data management and analysis technologies, as listed below:

1. The Database Engine, the core service for storing, processing and securing data  provides controlled access and rapid transaction processing to meet the most demanding data consuming applications within an enterprise.

2. SQL Server Data Quality Services (DQS) provides knowledge-driven data cleansing solutions. It enables knowledge base creation, which performs data correction and deduplication on extant data.

3. Analysis Services, a data platform and toolkit for personal, team, and corporate business intelligence analysis in tabular modeling solutions and self-service analytics and collaboration using PowerPivot, Excel, and a SharePoint Server environment.

4. Master Data Services, the SQL Server solution for master data management to make certain that reporting and analysis is based on the right information by creating a central holding stage for all master data.

5. Replication, a set of technologies for inter-database copying and distribution of synchronized data and database objects.

Reporting Services delivers enterprise, web-enabled reporting to create reports that draw content from multiple data sources, publish reports in various formats and manage security.
