Snacks are an essential part of a healthy diet as they keep the metabolism active. It is important, though, to eat healthy snacks which provide us with nutrients which may be lacking from our main meals and therefore contribute to our overall health. A great, nutritious snack which can be enjoyed at all times is edamame, or immature soybeans.

These beans are the perfect nutritional snack as they contain important nutrients which we should consume every day. They can be eaten on their own and can also be added to vegetable dishes, soups, salads etc. to add some extra flavor and a nutrient boost to our meals. They do not only taste great, but they contain numerous health benefits.

Edamame contains lots of fiber, which helps to keep the digestive system functioning properly, and also helps weight loss! Since fiber is bulky it makes us feel full more quickly and for a longer time, therefore cutting cravings and preventing us from overeating. Having these beans as a snack can help us eliminate any excess food from our diet, and we will be filling ourselves with a highly nutritious snack!

Edamame is in fact a great protein source, not only because of the very high levels of protein it contains, but also because it contains less saturated fat than other protein sources such as meat, for example. It therefore provides us with the protein we need without giving us any “bad” fats! Protein is the building block of our bodies and it is essential for maintaining strong muscles and tissues, and it also helps injuries heal more quickly.

Another health benefit is that it helps our immune system therefore making our bodies more able to prevent disease. These beans in fact contain a high amount of antioxidants which help repair our bodies to keep it strong and fight against disease.

Vitamins and minerals are also found in abundance. These immature soybeans contain lots of vitamins, such as Vitamin A and Vitamin C, providing us with a large percentage of our recommended daily amount, and also minerals such as iron and calcium. They contribute to keep bones strong and healthy thanks to most of their vitamins and minerals, such as manganese and Vitamin K, which helps increase bone density.

Apart from this, soybeans help prevent cancer thanks to the phytoestrogens they contain, they help prevent kidney damage, have anti-inflammatory properties, contain many benefits for menopause and reduce bad cholesterol while raising good cholesterol.

These are all very valid reasons for adding edamame to our diet! Just one cup of these beans a day helps us to keep healthy and in great shape.

Adding it to a balanced diet helps keep your organs healthy, avoid disease, gives you most of the nutrients you need and helps you keep your body in fantastic shape, making it the ideal snack to add to your diet everyday !
