Although compact, Cyprus is an attractive island offering a rich variety of landscapes from pine-clad mountains to golden sandy beaches. Cyprus, which is located in Europe, eastern Mediterranean, and the capital which is Nicosia, has a population estimate of 900,000 people who predominantly speak Greek and some Turkish. Discover ancient UNESCO-listed sites, wonderful beaches and crystal clear waters. With over 500 hotels, villas for hire and hotel apartments scattered throughout the island, your stay in Cyprus is guaranteed to be thrilling. Simple hotels that are upgraded also exist. Discounts are usually offered during the low season and this could be checked prior to arrival. Guest houses are mainly located in Limassol, Pafos, Troodos and Larnaca while five camp sites which include washing facilities have been licensed.

Road is the most employed form of transportation whereby you could board a bus which connects all towns and villages on the island, 24 hour taxis that operate between the main towns, car hire which is the best for exploration and motorcycles. Be cruised to one of the major resorts which have bars and ...
... restaurants of every category. In larger hotels, the cuisine tends to be international although authentic local dishes may also be available. Restaurants all over the island offer genuine Cypriot food which could be enjoyed by ordering mezze (snacks). National specialities served include tava (a tasty stew of meat, herbs and onions), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with minced meat and rice), kebabs, stifado (beef stew cooked with vinegar or spices) and fresh seafood. Coffee, wines, spirits and beers, brandy sour cocktail and commandaria (a sweet desert wine) complete the list of national drinks. Cyprus also boasts of a lively and enjoyable nightlife scene in all of the cities and resorts. Venues vary from pumping discos through to fashionable bars in the island's luxurious hotels.

Make sure you join in the celebration of the feast of Kataklysmos where crowds throng the shore for water sports, singing, dancing, eating and drinking; hike through the many unspoilt areas in Cyprus; go skiing on Mount Olympus; get wet by enjoying a myriad of opportunities for windsurfing, kite surfing, diving, paragliding and swimming; take kids and family to friendly spots like Protras and Pernera resorts; party hard in Agia Napa which is a major clubbing resort; enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving around Cape Gkreko; go fishing at Latchi resort; enjoy free wine during Limassol's wine festival in September; marvel at the beautiful landscape of Karpaz Peninsula or entertain yourself by playing golf at Korineum Golf & Country Club. Alternatively, take a walking tour of Nicosia and visit Cyprus' Folk Art or Byzantine Museum. Thereafter, go on an excursion to the Royal Tombs and Agios Irakleidios Monastery at Tamassos of the resort town of Larnaca and see the Agios Lazaros Church. Visit the nine Byzantine churches which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites or simply purchase handmade commodities, jewellery, silver spoons and forks, lefkara lace or the local wines and brandy.

Most visits to Cyprus are trouble free with crimes against tourists being uncommon. Be informed that Cyprus has a strict policy of zero tolerance towards drugs and also beware of strong seas and only swim at approved beaches. Respect should be shown for religious beliefs and beachwear be confined to the beach. In spite of all these, don't hesitate to make it your holiday destination.
