College is not just the next place to go once high school is over. It's a place of higher education that is chalked full of life choices. You must plan everything carefully and prepare yourself for the experience ahead of you.

Make sure that you bring an ample amount of toiletries when you enter college. These are essential as you will use them everyday, and you will quickly run out. Buying toiletries in bulk saves you time and money.

Even the seat you choose can have an impact on how successful you are in your college courses. Be sure to get there early to grab a front row seat! This shows your professor that you are involved and serious about your education.

If you are finding it difficult to be academically successful, find out if your college offers a course to help you with your study skills. Students that do well in high school might be surprised by the work they are given in college. A study skills class can set you on the path to success in your classes.

It is important to stay active while in college. Here, you can meet a lot of active people in your college, while also getting ...
... a workout during the day. You can find a group of friends who will go to the gym with you on a regular basis.

Pay your credit card balance in full every month. If you do, you may face heavy interest charges in the long run. A credit card is best saved for emergencies only. Don't use it to go to the movies, bar or a restaurant. You don't want to add any more than necessary to your college-related debts.

Know how to get in contact with your professors. Learn the location of their offices and their office hours. If you have a good relationship with your professors from the start, they will be more understanding if you must miss a deadline or need other special considerations.

Most people have heard about the "freshman 15," but you can easily stay away from it if you don't overload on carbs. You want to stay away from processed foods. Eat fresh produce and whole grains to maintain energy levels and stay healthy. Don't eat too much protein, though, as that has its own health issues associated with it.

Your mother isn't coming with you to college. Eat healthily, sleep enough, and keep your living area clean. Set your schedule based on your classes, and include time for studying and having fun, also. Eating poorly and being stressed out will make you ill.

The environment that you study in has a huge impact on the quality of your studies. Studying in your dorm isn't usually feasible due to the noise and activity level. Look for a quieter area that is free from interruptions. Studying in a library is always a great idea. Another good choice is to purchase headphones that cancel out the noise.

Get plenty of sleep. You'll find in college that all-nighters and socializing can be very tempting, but you do need to rest too! Too little sleep leads to an underactive and useless brain, so get your eight hours nightly.

Getting your college education is a very great thing to accomplish, and it also may feel very overwhelming. Use the things you've learned here, and take advice from others that have already been there. You'll have to work hard but your efforts will not go without ample reward.
