There are many people who you might want to take in the Paris attractions with. For a romantic trip, your other half would be the obvious choice, for example.

On the other hand, a city break could also provide the chance to spend some time with your mates, or it might be a great opportunity for the family to experience a city together.

But that's not to say that people always need someone else with them when they're heading to Paris, or any other holiday destination for that matter.

For example, if you want to get away but your annual leave dates don't match that of your partner, if you're single, or if you simply like the space to be on your own, you can still have a fantastic time exploring Paris as a lone traveller.

Here are some brilliant times for getting the best from the city when you're by yourself.

Make the most of the Paris attractions

If you're holidaying alone, you might well have more free time to fill where you want to be entertained and don't necessarily have anyone to chat to. Luckily you've chosen to come to Paris, a location chock-full of
entertaining attractions.

No ...
... matter what you are ultimately interested in, one great thing about holidaying alone is that you can throw yourself fully into experiencing the Paris locations that you want to see.

If art's your thing, for example, it's a simple matter to look into what there is on offer at, for example, at the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay or any of the other art venues in the city.

You can then choose which of these you want to head to - without having to compromise with other people you're travelling with.

Creating a shortlist of Paris tourist attractions and events before you head away could be a great way to ensure that, once you reach the City of Light, you'll be able to get right down to seeing everything you want to.

Language is key

Without a travel companion, those little interactions with bar staff, café waiters or the people manning the reception in your hotel can become that bit more important.

And, if you're new to the language, one great thing about the fact you'll be alone in Paris is that you won't be able to let a friend or partner do the talking in these situations.

That gives you the chance to take-on the challenge of speaking a little French yourself.

In Paris you're sure to find that almost anyone you come across speaks some English, but make things more interesting for yourself by getting in some French practice pre-trip, then using your knowledge in Paris.

None of us have that much time these days, but just by using a little of it in the run-up to your time in Paris, you'll be able to get some useful French memorised that can at least start off a conversation, before you ask 'parlez-vous anglais?'.

Read away

A book can be a great way to pass the time when you're sitting in a French cafe and haven't found anyone to chat to. So why not use the moments of your Paris trip when you're not exploring the city to take in some literature?

French classics in translation are always a good bet when you're journeying around France. The classics section of your local bookstore is sure to have some, or try a Paris bookshop, as some will hold copies of English books.

Whoever you go to Paris with, remember to make the most of this beautiful city, so that you'll know you had as good a holiday as possible.
